I don't see that unless McGinn leaves. Managers very rarely change captaincies as that person it their link between the players and the management team within the club as well as leading on the pitch, and Emery seems to be fine with McGinn doing that job officially.

Mings should never have lost the captaincy in the first place and is the best Villa and England defender full stop.

Yeah I think he'll be captain again next season, not sure McGinn ever wanted it , they are both leaders but Mings is the clear natural captain at the club and I can see it being reinstated now he's fit again .

Regardless of whether it was the right decision to take the captaincy from Mings in the first place (it wasn't), it would now be equally unfair to take it away from McGinn. Rightly or wrongly, it would be seen as an insult. Unlike Gerrard, Emery isn't a massive twat. So I don't see it happening.

Yep, agreed @Colin

I also have a feeling that Mings is making himself indispensable to Emery (again?). I wonder where we'd have finished last season if he and Kamara had stayed fit.

Probably 4th.

There is absolutely no point in changing the captaincy again. Mings will do it anyway. McGinn will too. The fallout has happened and is in the past. Why the fuck would you do it again over an armband?

Fourth, I'd imagine. We were a long way off third. Maybe we might have won the Conference League with more squad options, so we weren't running on empty, though.

Not according to the PPG stats with and without both Mings and Kamara that were knocking about a couple of years ago.

You have a point. Probably 5th then.

Mings effectively captains the team anyway when he's out there . I think it would release some responsibility off McGinn which he's going to benefit from .
Also not sure McGinn will be a natural starter each week next season whereas Mings will be.

Your first sentence is a fair point. Having Mings in defence effectively gives us an extra captain. The best teams have lots of leaders all over the pitch. You don't need to piss about with reallocating armbands and potentially upset players, like Gerrard did, to achieve that effect.

TBF I've just checked the table and we were miles off third in the end. I'm not dying on this hill. I'll meet you at fifth.
