Well yeah but doesn’t speak to the defensive ineptitude that gets pointed at Pau and I haven’t compared but I suspect our attacking play functioned really well in that time - so there is that point around the overall effectiveness of the team as a whole.

Yes, I suspect you’re right and inept is definitely too strong a word. I said when we bought him that he lacked the physicality to be a perfect PL defender and I think that’s been borne out, but he’s very good when you factor in his plus points. My oft-repeated mantra is ‘Konsa needs Mings, Pau needs a right-sided Mings’ and I think that’s been borne out too.

Perfect is the enemy of good. Emery’s job is to make the best out of what is available taking into account the opposition, the fixture list and players fitness and recovery times. With the number of games there are inevitably going to be times when compromises have to be made and getting those calls right more often than not is part of what makes him such a good manager.

Tyrone on the injury:

He knows that he's still got a long way to go until he's 100% again, and believes the last 20% of rehab is in playing games, but speaking about how long he thinks it will be until he's in perfect condition, he said: "I would say another 3 or 4 months of playing continuously is when I will stop thinking about the injury.

"The fact that I've been out, and to stop being so rusty in certain situations - there are so many things that you only experience in a game.

"There is no grace period - you're either good or you're not."

Bade can also play left side as well as right side centre back which gives further competition and options.

Great servant to the club but really struggling to get back to the level he was. Sad to watch him in last 30 mins tonight

He's tired from having to play every game after such a long time out. He'll be fine again.

Think if Torres was fit and Carlos still here, we’d still be easing him back into the team rather than asking him to play every game.

Tonight was his fifth 90 minutes in 18 days. Compare that to how many minutes Buendia (out with similar injury at roughly the same time) has been given.

Ten years back it took a much younger player in Delph a season (at least!) to fully get over a similar long term knee injury and begin to look a decent player for us.

I don’t know if he will ever get back to his best, but I think it’s still too early to call.

Bit premature imo.

He wasn't on his own, the problem we have is when we are injury free the squad is just about adequate but when injuries come along we are struggling with the amount of games they are being asked to play. We have had two big league games and this one was one too far.

One major costly mistake, otherwise, he did as well as other defenders.

The defensive mistake wasn’t ideal, but it happens. It was more him and Konsa being really poor on the ball that was the problem - failing to pick passes, playing passes too short etc.

Kehrer was also Mings' man from the corner and is about four inches shorter, so he shouldn't really have been allowed to win the first header either.

No which without labouring the point shows Mings was never going to be the silver bullet for our defensive issues. He’s a good player, but he’s not flawless and even if he was we’re still too easy to play against which stresses the defence too much.

The amount of times Digne sprints down the left into wide open space only for Mings to turn inside and pass to Konsa is driving me mental ATM

Then for Konsa to dilly dally on the ball, invite pressure then pass to the opposition.

I'm with you Hookey, it's driving me mental too!!
