Wright’s goal in the 4-2 game at WHL is one of my best away day experiences.

I know he was popular, but I always had a real problem with Alan Wright as a player.

What were your issues?

I thought he was shit.

It's a brave call but I'll back you up by saying though I liked him, I always felt we could've been better in that position

Thirded. Very over rated on here.

Fourthed.

All these people should be banned.

Wright was brilliant in his pomp. Did tail off a bit later on but the above is blasphemy of the highest order.

Yes I was in with the Tottenham fans behind the goal when he hit that one.
Absolute screamer.

I remember him scoring a belter away at Boro. He nearly scored a similar one down at Chelsea but it hit the bar and bounced down to someone who tapped it in.

Did Wright used get beaten in the air at the back post quite a bit? Maybe more towards the end of his career. Tidy player on the ball as was Gary Charles. That team Brian Little put together was really well balanced. Spoiled it by bringing in head bangers like Curcic and Collymore unfortunately.

Yep the Boro one was an absolute screamer.

I had a weird problem with bald people when I was a late-teenager/early-20s. That could be it. If you could see me now, you'd be in no doubt that karma continues to exist, and indeed thrive.

Sorry, I thought Wright was brilliant....or at least very decent.

Well he certainly wasn't crap. Virtually an ever present in the years we finished 4th and 5th and won the League Cup and then for several years after that when I don't think a Villa side with him in it finished lower than 8th.

Also the first player's name I ever had on the back of a Villa shirt - The 95-96 away.

I don't know why I chose Wright. Trying to be different as a 13 year old, I guess :)

I had the home shirt, same season & with Wright on the back. I was 6. Was my first kit. I wore it to every birthday party for the next five years.

Let's not bring personal feelings into this, cue ball.

I wonder whether people would have thought of Wright differently if was of average height. I think his stature did influence what people thought of him, not just here but within the game too. It was a great spot by Little.

I can't see why it would have made any difference? That team was brilliant, and Wright more than played his part in it.

I think there's a perception it was a weakness.

My recollection was he had a great spring and was fine in the air for a fullback.  I thought he was a great player and really liked him.
