Strange old day. I think the Stokes captaincy had more good than bad and, as others have said, he's produced some incredible moments in his career that will never be forgotten.

Maybe I'm reading something into all this that isn't there, but I'm wondering whether Stokes was told to retire and he is taking his revenge on the authorities with this team performance.

Well I agree with me even if none of the rest of you do!!

I also think this team performance is a bit of a fuck you to someone. I don't think Stokes has been told to go but I reckon he feels pushed out and the players don't seem happy. Don't think it reflects well on the team but it's been an emotional day.

Also echo all the doubts about Brook as a captain but I don't know who else there is.

It will probably be brooks - but I just don't see it.  He's either too thick or too full of himself to manage most of his innings - let alone the rest of the team.

The captain will depend entirely on what happens with Key and McCullum. If they do both go (and I think they will, which is what I think the retirement is about) then I can see the incoming coach going a bit left-field and bringing in a captain from outside the group.

If he was in better form my guess would be Hameed but he's not been great so far this summer. Then you push Gay down to 3 and Bethell into the middle order and with a little more bowling expectation but also to let him keep learning and becoming the captain-in-waiting that they're setting him up as.

I cant see it being anyone from outside the group - this time next years it will be the ashes - it seems too bigger ask to bring in someone and make them captain.

I would say its either Brook or Root.
