Well it was, but be brighter than to use the term “has beens” if you don’t want it to come across as a slight. The tone of the overall piece is ok, but that is clumsy language.

I think that was a dig at Botham, who has become the worst in my day merchant since Fred Trueman.

Let’s hope it’s just minor tightness in the hamstring.

I don’t see England winning either, I think it will all come down to the bowling, if this Aussie attack has another series in it then we are in trouble….the intrigue is whether any of them go over the edge towards the retirement home….Cummins is the youngster of that batch with Hazlewood / Lyon / Starc / Boland.  Englands attack on the other hand could be anything, we might come home with new heroes or we might look like a bunch of net bowlers throwing down half volleys to Smith for the whole series.

Root got no runs which a concern. At least the openers got time in the middle.

Pope getting some runs is useful.

A couple of wickets for Potts is good as well because he's probably who comes in if Wood can't play in the 1st test.

Unless the scorecard is wrong Wood batted, which has got to be a good sign.

Yeah, got 31 batting at 7 but then we had Carse come in as well so the Lions took 11 wickets because it was clearly setup to be a full day of England batting today. Potts and Bethell ended up with 3 each which is good because they're the 2 from the lions that I suspect will be used in the Ashes at some point.
