2-2 is fair in overall context but it’s pathetic that England lost this match from where they were at tea yesterday. Pope and Bethel have been particularly disappointing.

Strange to think that our next test is in the Ashes

But harsh on Bethell, he has been managed poorly this summer.

England threw that test away.
Poor batting decisions.
Bring on the Aussies.

I have some sympathy for Bethel, they’ve messed him about in way they kept him around the squad rather than release him to play for the Bears. That is frustrating for a young player who has played one red ball game since the end of the New Zealand tour.

The dropped catches in their second innings ultimately cost us this test.

It’s tough because it’s high pressure and hooping around. But I think they got it tactically wrong this morning. They had 4 wickets, and what they should have - especially after Overton hit those two boundaries - is said one of us (Smith) plays conservatively, and the other just goes. Then you’ve got at least two wickets until you maybe have to change. Smith going after it and getting out was just low percentage from a tactical perspective.

Cracking match and series, as Olaftab said a fair overall result. England had big moments and fumbled, I thought that was it when Root was out yesterday.

64 extras across both innings including 22 wides didn’t help our cause either

Can’t help what happened to Woakes but the bowling wasn’t great, catching poorer and some of the batting really immature and needless. Well played India though. A good series but hopefully we get better at learning from mistakes.

Yep, just a bit sloppy throughout the test.  Played some good cricket at various points to get in a good position, but were then just loose and couldn't take advantage.

Or 6 drops, or failing to get the nightwatchman out early before he scored 66. Lots of if/buts in this as well as other games, hence why it could easily have been an England 3/4-1 win.

5-0 to Australia, I reckon. England had a pathetic record there when they had a much better bowling attack than they do now.

No, can't see England losing the first two as I will be there. 8)

I have often thought as to why fielders take so much risk trying to save one run in a Test? Maybe the short game mentality makes them do that but what happened to Woakes was very costly in this very close  match.
