Brook is a lucky fucker, awful shot but got away with it. Needs a big score now.

Wood was great on Comms.

Brook really needs to get that out of the game. Having lost Root, last over of the day it’s a properly dense shot to play. He’s a brilliant player, but he loses himself sometimes.

Root never looked comfortable - brooks was lucky but overall test is nicely poised

It’s really impressive from Pope to back up his hundred with another one, in a high pressure situation. Very good.

England's day today and I feel pretty good about things tonight. They're still ahead in the match but another good day tomorrow and the tables will turn.

Root's dismissal may have changed the balance of things a bit and Brook's reprieve could be huge.

You'd always favour the side with a first innings score like that. If we get within 100 runs of them, we'll have done well.

It’s obvious but morning session today is key to this test match. Keep it to loss of no more than 2 wickets and it’s saved. It’s remarkable how Headingley surface changes if temperature reaches 25 plus for a number of days.
Can’t lose to a one bowler team, can we?

A decent morning. Next challenge is to see off Bumrah with new ball in his hand in the first hour after lunch.

Not sure that’s smart from Smith.

Indeed, a very useful 40 but we're still 100 runs short of competitive here.

Stupid shot from Smith - completely unneeded and opened up the tail to the new ball.  Hopefully Woakes can stick around for a bit and help see off the next 10 or so overs

India badly miss a second bowler to back up Bumrah, Siraj lost his cool and has gone for 29 off his last two overs. The rest have been bang average. Karthik has also just laid into them on the Sky commentary for all of the dropped catches, the most drops by India in a test match for over 5 years.

Game on.
