Tom Carroll is one of my favourites, one of the most bizarre signings I can remember.

That was a loan. Joe Cole and Robert Pires were inspired choices.

He was in goal for the 3-3 v Sheff Utd (O'Connell's mistake....McGinn...GREEEEEENNNNN) and he had the ball kicked out of his hands for their second goal.  Because of this, I have zero sympathy for them for the ghost goal a year later.

I can't actually remember any of his matches, just a vague feeling of ennui and despair when I heard his name mentioned.

my god some of the random shite that have worn the shirt in that period is unsettling when you see them grouped together like that.

I found myself thinking of Bret Holman the other day.

What is amazing is how quickly we forget some of these utter fucking no-hopers. There were loads of them.

Who remembers Kevin Toner? Now playing in the Spanish 4th division.

Rudy in Lisbon had a soft spot for him, I think.

Derrick Williams?

Came on for one substitute appearance against QPR away in a 1-1 draw under Lambert in December 2012. Brett Holman scored for us......

One of the strangest signings we have made.  Just remember him being very slow to get down and looking very suspect against low shots.

Free transfer I presume, or have we paid them to take?

Seems to be from what I can find, no mention of a fee anywhere, it does mean a small hit on FFP because he'll have had a book value of about £1m, not enough to make it a bad deal though. I think Trez and Targett will have accounted for £8-10m positive for FFP so we're still 'up' on the sales so far and it'll be a decent chunk off the wage bill as well.

At least we don't have to sell £60m players because we're afraid of FFP implications.

Kalinic was actually improving.

His last full game for us was at Brentford where he made two good saves and deserved the clean sheet he was denied in stoppage time.

In the next game he was concussed against Albion, Jed Steer took his chance and the long winning run took us up.

Though signed under Deano, apparently the move was set up under Bruce's management, meaning that Bruce signed no fewer that three 'keepers in his last few months in charge -unbelievable, and clear evidence that Bruce had lost the plot.

In the meantime, he sent Steer -who was better than all of them- on loan to Charlton for half the season!!
