Bruce had Steer in goal for the first game that season, a win at Hull. For some insane reason, Steer was let go on loan to bring in Nyland, who Bruce claimed our then goal keeping coach Gary Walsh had been scouting for years. He was a car crash and Bruce eventually replaced him with Bunn for the cabbage gate last stand v Preston. Fast forward to Smith/Cutler and bringing in Kalinic for crazy money for a championship keeper. He was immediately dreadful and at least Smith saw the error of his ways and brought Steer back in.

Steer while injury prone is definitely more than good enough to hold his own in the championship. A key part of our promotion bid including brilliant saves in the playoff semi.

Wasn’t the Kalinic deal done before Smith arrived after we tried to sign him under Garde (shudder), it just got finalized once the window was open by which time Smith had joined? I could be wrong.

We tried to sign him under Garde but were unable to do so as we couldn't obtain a work  permit, so the deal was dead.

Roughly three years later we signed him under Smith. So nothing to do with the earlier interest.

Has a club ever tracked a player so long only for him to be such a flop?

Wasn't it the nonce-hushing Sunderland Chair who scuppered the deal for us?

I knew she was a unit but didn't realise it was two people.

Excellent. No more asking Where is the Lovre.

One free space in the 25 man squad already then for a new signing / Lansbury.

I genuinely had forgotten about Lansbury. What a waste of a wage

Yeah. Emi will prove to be/is a bargain and Steer paid for his spare many times over with his performances in the Ch'shit, especially the Play Offs. You win and lose some.

Kalinic and his Hadjuk Split team get knocked out of that new UEFA thing by some Kazakh part-timers.
