Burnley 6pm on a Thursday will be a tough sell to the nation.

Chelsea have the same, they play Arsenal when we play Palace. I've seen some of their fans suggesting using their full squad and playing two different sides, including some wags suggesting (probably more in a dig at their near neighbours, but I'll take it) that they "Rest the big names against Arsenal for the big test against Villa..."

Play the strongest team available. Same as we did against Liverpool and Arsenal. Barkley can't play anyway so bound to have some fresh legs in midfield.

Villa v Palace live on BBC1 on Boxing Day.

'Sake. About time we had a match free to air but at 3pm on the busiest racing day of the year?

2-day turnaround for the Palace/Chelsea games but also a 3-day turnaround for the Burnley/West Brom games. It will help that we've got a young squad but it's these occasions where having a deeper squad benefits you. Hopefully we can have an element of rotation and it would help to involve some of the more peripheral players in the lead up to them, being able to bring in the likes of Ramsey for example.

That's what I thought, Nev. My first visit to VP was on the day after Boxing Day in 1966 against Sunderland. We had played at Roker Park the day before, as was the custom back then.

It hasn’t got its own thread yet, but Newcastle players are all self isolating. Their training ground is closed until Thursday. This may affect Fridays game ?

Is there a precedent for postponing games at an ELITE LEVEL ( i.e not Raith Rovers v Cowdenbeath) cos a squad has been Covid'd to feck?

Every example I've seen so far has resulted in the team in question forfeiting the game rather than a postponement. But they've all been in cup competitions rather than leagues.

Oxford v Swindon was rearranged. Not elite level, maybe, but the Football League and Premier League work on basically the same rules I believe.

Orient-Spurs in the cup and Spurs got a bye. That was really due to Spurs being in europe and there being no midweek before xmas to replay.

It's different with us and Newcastle not being in europe so wouldn't shock me if it was postponed. However similar case in Spain a few weeks back and game had to be played:

Anyway sounds like it should only be postponed if they have fewer than fourteen players available, including under-23s. So it should be on.
