No personal stuff from me and it's just my opinion but I think we would be unwise to write Barkley off. What he adds to Jack's game and what Jack adds to his when their partnership works is not inconsiderable. Their link up play has been magical at times. We should aim to get that back.

I think you've inadvertently highlighted the main problem with Barkley.  He's the ultimate luxury player, so when all of the rest of your team hit their best form at once he looks brilliant. As soon as a few players have a dip though, and you need somebody to make things happen, he goes missing completely. I wouldn't write him off either, and I hope we can see him back in the form of earlier in the season, but I'd rather have 10 games of 7/10 performances from El Ghazi, than 2 9/10s from Barkley, with the rest 4 or 5s, which has been the case recently.

If we are going to lash out 40m for him he needs to be an 8 when others are a 6 or 7, and a 9 when others are an 8. We can find lots of players in the 10-20m range to be solid 7s but thats not going to bridge the gap to the top 4.

What struck me was the effort he put in all match until subbed, if he did that every game he would be an asset but too many times he seems to drift through games.

Id say his record this season suggests hes not really drifted through games at all. Hes had one or two stinkers but overall when weve played him hes been superb.

Has done well to get back into contention at all. That miss against Everton seemed to destroy his confidence for a while. Another enigmatic type, you can tell usually within 10 minutes if he's going to go well or have a stinker. Has all the attributes to be a top player at this level but is wildly inconsistent.

I've always said with wingers that they are mostly inconsistent.  We have three of them like that.  The likes that aren't are your Mahrez's who will cost 70m - 80m plus.  He is fine as are Traore and Trez.

To be honest, I've felt that watching the whole team this season.

Yes, thats very true. You do get a feeling from the off when were in for a hiding or you just know were not going to win. Our whole game goes from a very fast pressing and attacking style to a stroll around the park.

Hopefully he's done enough to stay in the team again. He was unlucky to get dropped to start with.

I always thought the balance of the team was better with El Ghazi on the left and Jack in the middle. It coincided with our best football and control of games. We look much poorer with Barkley in the middle (obviously) and teams were marking Jack out of the game.

If he's playing well, which is (more often than not at the moment) he's immense and means Jack can influence the game more from the middle.

Yup. Comes with the territory.

That's now seven goals for a season in which he's played around half the matches. For context, the most that Young ever got for us in a season was nine and he was playing pretty much every minute of every game.

A few duff matches here or there, which pretty much every winger will have, still don't diminish what's been a thoroughly impressive season.

I like him, have from the start, and did even when he'd turned into the anti-christ away at Everton for not scoring what was not as easy a chance as it was made out. He seems like a nice lad as well.

I like players that take shots too, it's an underrated part of the game. Except in the mind of Tonev.

It's quickly becoming a lost art I reckon, everyone seems to want total football and walking the ball into the net.

Good point and his constant desire to shoot on sight was highlighted on MOTD.

I don't think we should be selling him, but if anyone wants him in the summer they'd have to come in with big money. Goals, as we know, come at a premium.
