I'm really happy we're going to try and keep him, even if i think he's still very hit and miss. The PL is a big step up also obviously

I thought it was reported when we signed him on loan the trigger was about £4-5m......still, all good news!

Probably that if we'd stayed down.

I think in the premier league he will have to more to his game than knock the ball behind the defender and chase after it

Good signing though and for me adds to the squad, not sure if he is a starter every week.

If we manage to sign two more wingers who are better than or as good as El Ghazi, we really will have done some great business this summer.

I like him but £8m sounds toppish to me.  I thought he was a free agent this summer and expected out option to be less than that.

I think we've got to get used to this kind of fee - this is where the Premier League has got to in our absence, and 8 million in this environment really is towards the cheap end.

Is it possible that the amount of the fee depended on whether promotion was achieved or not?

I said the other day on the conversation about writing off Richards and McCormack that average players in the PL cost £25-30m. It’s not the league we left behind 3 years ago. Getting Hause, AEG and Mings for under £30m will be excellent business.

We seem to have a collective mental block when it comes to transfer fees. The club took over a decade to top paying half a million for Peter Withe, and even O'Neill never splurged any breathtaking wedge on a marquee signing, preferring to pay slightly over the odds for lots of not that good players.

If the market dictates that we have to pay £8m to secure players of his potential, then so be it. If we get all Doug about this, we'll be back down pronto.

£8 million is peanuts. Get him signed and move onto the next target.

Guardian reports Villa have triggered the option to buy, thought to be for £8m.

In relative, current market terms that’s (ridiculously) pretty reasonable.
