No country for old (any) wingers...

Quote
Speaking to Elf (Eleven) magazine in his native Netherlands, El Ghazi said: "The style of play introduced by new manager Steven Gerrard leaves no room for wingers like me. That’s the moment you have to decide to try your luck elsewhere." El Ghazi will enter the final 12 months of his Villa contract at the end of the season.

Classic football tropes of our time - a player is honest about their club situation during an international break when interviewed by their home press. At least Coutinho has been blowing us kisses to the Brazilian meedja.

I can see El Ghazi making Lingard moves and being prolific for Everton. He's better than anything they currently have and with a run of games his shooting will lead to goals.  Quality player to me just needed fine tuning
Disappointed he wasn't actually given the opportunity of others and I will be watching closely how he performs .
Good luck to him as he's proven now at this level and needed a run of games which Gerrard won't give him

He's played a total of 11 minutes since moving to Goodison and not even making the bench. I'd guess the loan spell has lost us some money and we'll probably struggle to get anything and will have to give him away in the summer.

Did not even make the bench against Manure.

Why on earth did they even take him? Even under Benitez he barely featured.

Humiliating for a player that has been a good servant to the club, always recognised his deficiancies but he deserved better.

Poor fella.  Never let us down.  Especially from the spot.

Was thinking the other day that he's been treated really badly.

Nope. Not only was the move a waste of time for the player, by not playing him at all will have a knock-on effect with the price this summer.

As I think someone said at the time we should have cashed in last summer when his stock was at its peak. Ultimately he was a reserve back up left sided attacker behind Grealish and latterly Bailey. Opportunity missed but last summer was a real Curates Egg of a transfer window.

What a shame for him, I think he's well regarded generally. I hope a decent move transpires for him in the summer.

We could have done with his goals this season.

It's odd as well, in so far as he's not a traditional 'hug the touchline' winger.

He's probably more comfortable cutting inside and getting shots off. So even in our wingless wonders set up which SG can't see beyond, there should be a place for him. Off the bench, at least.
