Me, Sid and Boozey have posted some kind of defence of him and you replied to all three Instead of just letting the post stand. It's not like we don't know how you feel. You tell us on a daily basis.

I thought he had a really good first half against Southampton. Overall, he's probably trying too hard at times and I wouldn't be too upset if he was left out now and again but I think he's been terrific for us overall.

Not for me, he gave away possession far too easily, his pass success was something like 55% at half time, that will never be acceptable for a centre mid. I think he's a much better player than he's showing right now but his form this season is awful and he should be nowhere near starting right now (although the Kamara injury means it's harder to leave him out).

It's a forum for discussion Clampy, that's the whole point of the board. I wasn't rude to anybody, unlike you, so if discussing things with other people offends you then feel free to use the 'ignore' feature.

I can't see where I've been rude to be honest but I shall leave it there.

If FFP is an issue, he'd be one of the few we could sell for more than they're worth.

If we move to 4-2-3-1 McGinn could definitely be an option in the advanced midfielder / 10 role, but then it's probably the best position for both Coutinho and Buendia too.

He could play inside right too, might offer a lot more than Bailey there. Pressing from the front is one of his strengths, not taking the ball from the centre backs and distributing it from deep.

We're clearly using him wrongly

He's a midfielder being played as an attacking midfielder. We just don't play against teams that are as poor as Israel or the Faroe Islands. If you want to play him further forward for Villa, are you going to use him there instead of Coutinho or Buendia? Because that would be utterly insane.

His main position in a 4231 under Smith or 433 under Gerrard was definitely not as an attacking midfielder. His best work is the opposition's third of the pitch, it's where he should be competing for a spot for us (not a guaranteed starting place).

let's either play him as a proper defensive midfielder or a proper attacking midfielder. None of this box to box role he isn't cut out for at the moment

You need to be able to play on the half-turn and have a half-decent weaker foot there though.

Compare his technique to Coutinho and Buendia (who presumably he'd be replacing) as a 10 and it's night and day.

Had a very good second half tonight. Playing at 10. Somehow avoided a yellow card for several meaty challenges. Fortunate win for the Scots I thought.

Agreed on all 3 points.

Meatball's gonna make meaty challenges all day and twice on Saturday. Just don't make them in our defensive third is all.

Good ole meatball.

SJM needs to score at least two tomorrow to make up for his brother's antics today.
