I don't want the NEC site but a lot points to it . Motorways / Airport / HS2 Interchange site / 38 mins to London / Resorts World and retail park , hotels etc all there . It's absolutely the perfect spot from a business / logistical perspective .

Lack of actual space to build an enormous stadium?

Also, 38 minutes to London? By SpaceX?

It's going to be 38 mins from Birmingham interchange to Euston .
And if you look where the HS2 interchange site is there's loads of land over there to be had

Alex stadium and surrounding site is the easiest. The stadium makes no money at all and has lost most commercially viable events, is on a large plot, and the council need money.

What problem does that solve, though?

Size? Possibly. Transport links? Not really. Close enough to the city centre? No.

Depends how you do the transport links and how much money you throw at it. The city centre bit has sailed somewhat with the knighthead lot getting very in with the council. There is not going to be another reasonably adjacent city centre site, and you are not going to move out to the NEC area.
A deal with Knighthead then?

What is currently being developed alongside the A47, just before the M6N turn-off onto the A38? - there's a massive site being cleared.
HS2 depot and sidings
Ah, got you; thanks.

What is the sweet spot for capacity. Clearly if you are going to build you want to maximise the seating but supporting Villa is a peaks and troughs experience. If you over expand the tension for tickets falls away and this reduces attendances as people decide not to go "on the day". c60,000 might be too big?

Good question - West Ham had a significant capacity increase when they moved and seem to have been able to fill it, albeit in London.  It will be interesting to see what happens with Everton.
If we are staying at Villa Park, a good approach for us would be to redevelop the North Stand to take us to 52,000 and see from there.  It would give us a few years to look at options for the Witton Road and we could look to expand that if necessary.
Good logic but this would not address the appalling services in the Witton Lane stand and Holte. The whole ground is becoming not fit for service. A new build or major VP overhaul are really the options.

38 minutes to Old Oak Common, is the current plan. Add another 25-30 minutes to get into Euston. HS2 is currently a white elephant and will not add any value to Birmingham or Villa as it stands.

Transport issues are the biggest problem I see with the Alexander Stadium.  I think the space is there, especially if you could purchase the allotments and the setting os a good one.  It is also far enough away to have a captive audience for food / drinks etc.

I went to the Commonwealth Ganes there and they had to put on loads of additional buses to get a 40,000 crowd in and out of there.  Perry Barr Station is a fair walk and Witton and Aston stations even further.

I'm not sure how moving from an area with two train stations to a place with one helps our transport issues. Aston is the best place in Birmingham for public transport/road access.

Yep and it would be even better if we were a short walk from Curzon/Moor/New Street stations.

Town absolutely can't handle 60,000 people on top of usual town traffic. It's already quite often an absolute nightmare by car (which is always how the majority of fans will be attending).

I’m going to disagree here and say if you plonk it near the three main rail termini and let’s not forget the main bus nodes and our one tram terminus I think you’d see a major shift to travelling to the game by public transport. Obviously there’s people who have to or prefer to come by car but I’d reckon you can get a significant modal shift to rail/bus.

You know your comms strategy has backfired when there are such wildly divergent viewpoints about something as important as where the club plays its home games. From 'we're staying put and not expanding because they figured we don't need that many seats to earn a quick buck' to ' we're not expanding because we are building a new 70,000 stadium anywhere from the city centre to the NEC'.

If we'd had a coherent message last December it would have been helpful as the reasons given at the time were clearly B.S.

Why would British athletics give up their showpiece stadium which they have invested heavily in and have the European Championships taking place there in 2026 which the WM Combined Authority are part funding.

You're absolutely right.

All in all, the best location is probably somewhere near Luton.
