You'll never reach an amicable agreement with all the residents.
You don't know that for sure.
As sure as you can be.  Particularly when you're talking about probably 3-400 households if you want the whole site and not just the first row.  I've never known a CPO to happen without disgruntled owners and you'll be dealing with many people who were born in those houses.

Do you not know the incontrovertible truth that Aston Villa FC are by far the greatest team the world has ever seen?

I'm just spitballing here and I don't know for sure how many homes would be affected but looking at the age of those properties I think it's possible that a deal could be reached. We either buy for cash or maybe buy a plot of land and offer to build each homeowner a brand new home. We would probably be looking in the region of 30/40 million to do that but if we're looking at a possible billion pound development that wouldn't be a deal ending figure.

Of course! The two statements are not mutually exclusive.

Unless, say, an expert in English can prove otherwise.

A mini Wes interview. Don’t get to hear from him much. In truth doesn’t really say anything specific as it was the back end of a business interview on TV

https://x.com/justin_avfc_/status/1783099170796060916?s=46

Watching this, which was good to see, he says "six years to get from the Championship to the Champions League, that must be some kind of record". Looks genuinely enthusiastic.

Although I did find myself thinking, if he thinks that is record-worthy, wait till someone tells him about when we went from the Third Division to Champions of Europe in 10 years*

* and then back to the second division in 5.

If we do it then it will be very impressive but it's not a record thanks to Blackburn and Leicester.

I have no real.idea how it all works in terms of purchasing land, houses etc. but looking at it from a business point of view, wouldn't they just want a piece of land where there is minimal hassle?

If they are going for a new ground, I've got a sneaking suspicion that the NEC could be where they look at.  If you look at it, there's a lot of land around it, there's Birmingham International train station, there will be an HS2 stop there as well, there's the airport of course and there isn't much in the way of retail and food / drink there (Resorts World isn't huge) so opportunities for plenty of that.

If you didn't have an emotional attachment to the local area and were looking at it on purely business opportunity terms then I suspect it would be quite favourable as an option.  It wouldn't be for me, but I just have a feeling about it.

This would make a fine site for an Association Football ground. Oh wait.

Looking at the current site, there isn't much room to manoeuvre, without wholesale demolition etc.

How beautiful that old image is. As a confirmed supporter of moving, that gave me second thoughts.

I love the fact he says 'up the Villa' at the start.  I always remember as a kid my Grandad would say it every week when we visited and it's great the phrase is still so ingrained with fans after all these years.  I know a few other clubs use it, but it seems to me it's a mainly Villa thing and I love that.

UTFV.

As a kid, I remember visiting my great grandmother, who was born in the early 1890s and suffered a husband who'd get a bit fighty whenever Villa lost, and every single time I saw her, the first thing she said to me was "up the villa". I remember the last time I saw my grandfather, he was in hospital and died later that day, the last thing he said as I left was "Up the Villa".

There some special things that make me think we are, well, special.

First of all, we are who we are, history and what not. Then there's the way we have a greater national cultural significance than the likes of, say, Newcastle. Then there's the fact that our name is so unusual - I don't know why the fuck the noses go on about carrying the city's name, a suburb is much cooler. Then there's the fact we so often get referred to by non Villa fans as "the Villa", that definite article adds respect and gravitas.

Plus, there is as John Gregory always said, a beatiful symmetry in our name - two five letter words. A name that starts and ends with the same letter. 'Villa' - how many others are there? Hardly any, and those that do exist are invariably named after us.

Aston Villa is unique, historic and culturally significant in ways the likes of pretty much all other clubs will never be.
Exactly Paulie.  Exactly.

Great post paulie.

I never want us to leave.

I get the other options and whatnot, but what a ground we have.

Just expand where we are please, Villa.

This was posted at around 2 pm. I later thought that it was all getting a bit out of hand so I suggested that we knock it on the head. Hence the 'Peace FFS!' post around midnight.

Sad to see schoolmates like Perce and Badders fall-out over grammar. Surely it wernt like this in '86!
