Copa America 2019
« on: June 15, 2019, 02:42:35 PM »
Kicked off last night in Sao Paulo with Brazil winning 3-0 vs Bolivia. Goals from Coutinho (2) and a lovely strike by Everton (who I imagine Everton fans want to sign as much as we did with David Villa).

Today Venezuela vs Peru and Argentina vs Colombia.

Stick it in "International Football" with the CONCACAF Championship and the African Cup of Nations?

Must say I'm disappointed they decided to abandon the sixteen team format. I would get rid of the CONCACAF tournament and just have the Copa America as the competition for the whole of the Americas.

Venezuela vs Peru was a quite dull 0-0. Right now Argentina doing what they do best and flattering to deceive in international competition.

They generally have 12 teams in the Copa America, so usually invite a few teams from outside South America. Usually teams like Mexico and the US. I know Japan have been in it before. Never known a Middle Eastern team to be in it before though. I think they should just merge it with the North American one.

The plan was originally sixteen teams with three from North America and three from Asia. I think the North Americans proved impractical as the CONCACAF Gold Cup is on at the same time, so they decided on just two Asian guest teams. On the basis you're gonna have Asian teams in it, Qatar are there on merit having won the Asian Cup.

I should have gone to this. Tickets wouldn’t have been an issue judging by the empty seats at the Uruguay vs Ecuador game. Currently 1-0 Uruguay, goal after 6, Ecuador a man down and it won’t be a shock if they concede a few tonight.
