I'd give De Laet game time.

I just don't get this "RESTING PLAYERS" bit? If you look at the most successful team in England last season, Chelsea, they more or less played the same team barring injuries and suspensions last season in all competitions.
An alternative way of looking at it is "AVOIDING INJURY"...we can't afford to lose any of our better players due to a badly timed tackle, over stretching in a challenge, landing on their ankle, or any other unnecessary injury.

No Johnstone, Hutton, Taylor, Chester, Terry, Whelan, Hourihane, Lansbury, Jedinak, Davis, Gabby, Green in the squad list on twitter.

Steer, Bree, Elphick, Suliman, Bjarnarson, Lyden, Gardner, Doyle Hayes, Adomah, Ohare, Hogan looks about the most likely.

No Samba either, but Richards is on there, so I guess he will be 'featuring'.  Surprised Bree is on there as I would have started him on Friday night, unless of course it is felt he needs some game time.

I presume Wigan will have seen that squad and will put out what passes as a stronger team for them to give them a good chance of progressing to the next round and making it 5 wins out of 5 for the start of their season. Wouldn't be surprised to lose this 1-2 unless they field their reserves as well in which case 2-1 to us. Likely low attendance will favour them as they're used to playing in half empty stadiums. Unlikely to be a classic - good job it's free

There's no certainty whatsoever that the list of players in that pic is in anyway accurate, correct or genuine.

I'm all for seeing a few of the yutes play tonight. You must be gagging to show what you can do if you get a chance after the plaudits Keinan received over the weekend.

Think we will because our home form is solid and I don't think Wigan will be that bothered about the cup.  How convincing it is will depend on the lineups.  Will go 3-1 Villa.  Green, Hutton, Gabby for us.

Wigan, 4 wins in 4 games so far this season. Be tougher than Colchester.

I wouldn't go putting any money on those 3, not one of them in the squad tonight.

I have a horrible feeling about this game .With the Bristol City game on Friday ,we will play a reserve side .Also Wigan have started the season well and are a bit of a bogey side at Villa Park .Will go for a narrow 1-0 Villa win but would not be  surprised at all if we lose

And their Montegos (choice of three colours).
Brian Montego was not even on the drawing board at the time I know as I had just started work at the Austin in the drawing office😊

I know we are seeded but surely we can't field 18 players?

Edit: oh you said squad😀

Why do people think this cup game is a free shot and a mere league game on Friday is more important?
