He's as good if not better already than
David McGoldrick
Glenn  Murray
Grant Holt
Andy Carrol who all foraged some sort of career at Prem level now and again.
All of whom scored regularly in the top flight...

Davis next step is regular goals but more than that regularly staying fit to play football matches.
To me he's a better player than all of them
But even by becoming a simple 10 goal season player he offers the physical presence. Maybe he doesn't have lethal finishing but he has something
That is what has to be improved the something. Loan him out  let him get some playing time.
I would say his injury record hampers him far more than his goals record.

Davis' next step would be to start enough games to score more than a couple of goals a season

He has no goal record at first-team level! So comparisons are pointless.
He needs a loan period where he gets regular football - I think we can all agree on that.

Looking to be borrowed, according to the Express & Star:

Quote
Aston Villa striker Keinan Davis looks for Championship loan
By Lewis CoxAston
Striker Keinan Davis has revealed he is looking to a loan move away from Villa Park in January.

The 23-year-old has found himself on the fringes at Villa this season and has played just 11 minutes of first-team football, in the Premier League defeat at Southampton – Dean Smith’s final game in charge – last month.

Davis, who was signed from non-league Biggleswade Town in 2015, has suggested that a temporary switch to the Championship, where he can play regularly, is on his agenda. The striker does not see such a move as ‘a step back’.

“To look at, it doesn’t look too good. The minutes I have got have been like eight or nine minutes, but it’s all appearances. I know it, the coaches know it and everyone in football knows it (how important it is to play),” Davis said.

“For me, I would say I need a good clean run of games whether that’s at Villa or somewhere else just to get experience and get goals and stuff like that.

“Yeah, depending on what the club say, that’s something I would like to do, to play more consistent games, so yeah.”

London-born Davis has made 86 appearances for Villa’s first team in all competitions, though just 28 of those have been starts. He added: “For a player like me, I’m still young. I’m trying to find my way. Going down to the Championship, I wouldn’t see that as a step back at all.”

Talk of a run of games, or a loan only mean one thing for this poor fella and that’s another trip to the treatment room.

I hope his luck changes, he could do with it.

He can certainly offer a good deal of ability and commitment to a fair number of teams in the EFL...he's just not what we need for the foreseeable future, so let him crack on in the Championship. He's a trier. Good luck to him.

Wouldn't surprise me at all to see him score a few in the Championship - I hope he does, it's good for us financially, and good for him professionally.

I don't think he'll ever be prolific, but 10 goals and similar number of assists in a "full" Championship season would allow him to have a pretty lucrative career.  And if he ever does get close to 20, then a premier league club would almost certainly come knocking.

Given our planned trajectory, I don't see him ever being a regular for us, but that's not to say he can't make a good living in the top two tiers.

I agree.  I think there's a Premier League player in there, it's just unlikely to be with us - he needs a couple of seasons of regular football, which we just can't give him.
