Like him a lot. Iím sure weíre not paying him a kings ransom, puts himself about, holds the ball up and brings others into play . Will he win the golden boot?  probably not, will he start many games for us ditto. Will he prove a valuable team player coming off the bench to hold onto what weíve got or get us back into a game ? Possibly.

that's a par with Scott Hogan then.

I'll take anyone's money in a bet that he won't score half the goals Scott Hogan has in his career to date.

Assuming you aren't counting non league as stats for Davis at that level aren't listed anywhere, you really think he'll fail to score 26 more goals in his career?

In the top 2 divisions of English football, he won't score that over the next 4 seasons I would say. Maybe even 5. I like him as a footballer, but by god he is a poor striker. If he is playing as a pure target man, fine, but he needs to be more aggressive, stronger and more "up for it" consistently. Drogba as an example as the best of that type, would not give centre halves a minute. Davis needs to learn that if he is not scoring goals, he needs to make the opposition hate the prospect of being battered for 90 minutes.

I think he's got a lot to offer. He can create havoc and unsettle defences. Will he be a prolific goalscorer? That's the million dollar question. Either way I'd like to congratulate him on signing a new deal and wish him every success in his career. I'm looking forward to watching how he develops.

Since ozzjim mentioned him, Drogba is a good example of players developing at different rates. He was still playing, and not scoring loads,  in the French second division at the age Keinan is now.

Obviously, he isnít likely to get to the level Drogba got to, but it completely possible that he improves as a player/finisher. He is also very young in terms of actual games played.

Just as an aside, how many goals would be acceptable for our second/third choice striker, given they are likely to play mostly off the bench?

Drogba was an entirely different case though.  He didn't really start a professional career until he was 21.

That was sort of my, probably badly phrased, point though. I wasnít really comparing them directly, just stating that itís not always straightforward to plot a players development. Semi-interestingly, they are not far from the same amount of minutes played at the same point in their career though.

I do get why some people donít rate Davis but I donít think itís implausible that he could significantly improve in the future.

In a system that usually plays with one recognised centre-forward, like we currently do, having someone like Keinan in the squad is more than adequate.  Especially given he's certainly behind at least Watkins and Wesley (when fit) and maybe even Samatta.

Given where we are in our ongoing development as a club, are we really likely to get a much better forward to play 3rd/4th choice?

As others have said, he's probably pretty cheap in premier league terms, he's 'home grown' so will represent good FFP value if we move him on in a year or two.

In terms of minutes on the pitch, I'd be surprised if he gets more than the equivalent of half a dozen premier league appearance this coming season - and he's good enough for that.  He might even surprise a few of us and score a few important goals.

I also wouldn't be averse to him going out on loan to get some game time and goals/experience when Wesley's back.
