Good things: The Play House pub, £15 a ticket, a new stadium I hadn't been to, our support, O'hare, the young Spurzz lad and Steer, through to the next round.
Bad things: The monsoon that enveloped the stadium, Samba, Hourihane and gutted to say Green. Not knowing if Hogan will ever be a 20 goals a season striker for us and suspecting that he won't. On a personal level realizing that I have a coat and several pairs of Adidas trainers older than some of our players.😢

i honestly think the weather was a proper leveller tonight though

the conditions meant we could bring them right down to our normal level of performance

Looking forward to watching Neil Warnock and Steve Bruce combine their talents to create a footballing feast for the ages.

Fuck me that was a road trip and a half! Another ground done, and one I hope I don't have to go to again. Still, we're through and that was the objective. Night y'all

We need to start taking our chances and being more clinical in front of goal. A typical example was Hogan tonight where he decided to try and dribble through a crowded 6 yard box rather than hit it first time on the volley after their keeper saved Adomahs effort. Its early days and I hope he proves me wrong, but unfortunately I don't think Hogan is going to make it at Villa.

thought that we were a bit lucky to win in the 90mins

Steer / Bree / the lad from Spurs and also O'Hare (who reminded me of the lead singer of the Associates - Billy Mackenzie - for those of you who remember them) did well

Samba looked frightened to death of having the ball at his feet, and he will struggle at Championship level this season.

Best news of the night about Bacuna leaving - lets hope for a few more going!!

Highlight of the night was the absence of Micah Richards, it was nice to see a few youngsters getting game time rather than fat wasters.

Pleased to see the manager give opportunities to the youngsters and I think they can all be relatively happy with themselves on an individual basis. A scratch side plus tough conditions contributed it to being fairly mundane overall but interspersed with the odd touch of excitement.

Steer was better tonight than any match Johnstone has played for us yet.

Still, at least we're helping Bruce's old club out a bit.
Yes that was my thought also whilst watching. Not sure why we should be developing someone else's player whilst we have an equally good one?

Or how about.....Steer has been out for the best part of two years and no-one knows how good he is/might be.  he looked good in one game which is promising, so we signed another keeper who already knows the club on loan with an option to buy of we want, but if Steer makes it then we may not need to?

Horrible conditions to play in but nice to win and a few real positives. I questioned why we were getting an untested kid in on loan whilst we have our own academy but it was plain to see his quality and what he'll bring this season. Onomah was head and shoulders above anyone else on the pitch and he should walk into the team on Saturday.

Only saw the second half, but the positives for me were Onomah, O'Hare and Steer. On the flip side I'm not sure what Hourihane does, and I felt Samba was a bit ropey.

Don't think the conditions helped at all either but we're through and we now need to go and win an away game in the league, 2 opportunities in the space of 4 days.

they adapted to the conditions better than we did but we won which is all that counts really. Samba was frighteningly shite.

Listened on BBC Essex and their commentators were good to listen to and fair - not partisan ( unlike that game at Leeds last season )

Its seems like Colchester had a number of chances that they wasted, like we did on Saturday.

It was a game to "blood" some younsters, in appalling conditions. Doubt that they will play in rain like that too often

But it was still blooming Colchester for effing sake!  ::)

the spurs lad was really good in parts he needs to start this weekend and our lad from the associates looked good.

Steer showing hes a good No 2 and Hogan scored .

Green Im not seeing what he brings to the party fears two at the moment but time will tell.

Barnsley must have sold us somebody who isn't Houriane . Thor was left back so will give him the benefit .

the conditions were horrendous so getting through at this stage is the main thing.

Get that but How is Steer going to make it if he doesn't get regular first team football? How about Steer being first choice and loanee on the bench?
