A dour 1-0 win. The first of many such results in the season ahead.

I agree .1-0 and not the last win by that scoreline this season.
I'll accept for one season only 46 of them

Quite a few unknowns in there. Clucas is a good player and Hernandez is a threat at this level. But surely that defence can be got at? I'm guessing they'll defend deep with Dawson in there. We haven't looked at all imaginative playing against that, including in pre season

I quite like the idea of green and Elmo getting at their full backs who both look very much untested according to this

If we are going to go up this season, we cannot be losing home games.
I think the pressure is on from day 1 to get a result and build some early momentum and confidence.

1-0 Villa.

Agreed. One thing is for sure with Terry in the squad there will be no hiding place in the dressing room. Because of that I'm going for a title win this season.

I have just looked back at our opening results with SGT when last promoted and was surprised to see what a dodgy start we made - 1 win, 3 draws, 3 defeats. 1-1 away to Ipswich on the opening day then a 2-0 defeat at home to SHA. We actually failed to win in any of our first 7 home games.

I understand your point, but there is a major factor in that season.
And lets face it, Steve Bruce is no Sir Graham Taylor.

This will be my grandson's first game. He's 3 and a half months old.

He should replace the injured Jack Grelish then just behind the striker

With the players in the squad that are available, I'd go...

4-4-2
Johnstone
Bree, Chester, Terry, Taylor
Elmo, Whelan, Hourahane, Amavi
Agbonlahor, Hogan

Subs: Bunn, Hutton, Samba, Lansbury, Bacuna, Green, Bjarnasson.

1-1, an uninspiring start.

Of course he isn't, and I don't expect him to find a Platt either.
If we get off to a slow start I just hope we don't press the panic button. We have changed managers at an alarming rate in recent years.

Good idea, I bet he's brilliant at dribbling.
