Did we have to use the Bescot for a European game in the 90s?

No, it was a pre-season against a Bucharest. I think it was John Fashanu's debut and we won 8-1 or something like that.

I don't remember that game at all.

Oh and spot on about the ground. It was a pain in the arse to get to in and stuck in the middle of a massive car park.

I have always found it easy to get to The Bescot from the Solihull area. Maybe because I did the journey so often when my companies head office was in Walsall. And the kids are happy as next door is the MacDonalds. (Ronald, not Steve or Liz).

Poor Andy, he always gets forgotten about, unlike that rotter Jim.

The Hawthorns game was the legendary Celtic Vigo in 2000.

A friendly against Rapid Bucharest in 1994. We won 8-0.

Yep, I remember Fashanu scored and I think Nii Lamptey scored a couple as well.

Wasn't the Holte being rennovated at that time too? I seem to remember it feeling good to be back on terraces behind the goal and enjoying the atmosphere that standing produces again.

Well summed up - the only thing more pathetic than the 'performance ' was seeing the captains armband passed to Micah Richards.

If the management fail to recognise and understand how much that act would have pissed off the travelling fans , we are going nowhere .

Same goes for Agbonlahor.

This is the Christmas video for those that haven't seen it, skip to 3min40secs.

Thinking about that referee makes me almost appreciate Phil Dowd.

There must be a thing about refs called Phil. The two Phils Dowd and Don never used to give us anything but gave the opposition plenty of decisions in their favour.

Fashanu - grade A tosser. I was appalled when we signed him and winced when this thread reminded me that he really did play for us.

Whenever I watch, hear or see an interview with him he tries to come across as very clever and eloquent but just comes across to me as quite a strange bloke. We signed him too late. At Wimbledon he was an effective striker in his prime. With us he was past his best and more interested in his TV programme and his business interests.

They had some great players in that era: Mostovoi, McCarthy, Makelele. Lovely team to watch

Villa were less pleasing on the eye despite being a solid team

Didn't Mark Burke play for them, bizarrely?
