Margaret Seadon: 17th July 1929 to 17th April, 2017

My mom, Margaret Seadon, died aged 87 in City Hospital on Monday evening of last week, 17th April.
She and my late dad, Fred, who died 8 years ago tomorrow, were both staunch Villa fans and were featured in the June 2008 (issue 24) of the Claret & Blue magazine as the couple who, then, had the longest period of combined Villa support: 150 years.
Mom attended her first game at Villa Park aged just 3, in March 1933. She was taken by my late granddad as her mother was ill and he could not bear to miss The Villa, so took her with him! She had a season ticket in the Witton Lane Stand from the early 1970's until she broke her hip in January 2010 and was regrettably no longer well enough to attend.
Mom went to all five League Cup Finals at Wembley from 1971 to 1996, together with the 1977 replays at Hillsborough and Old Trafford, but the match which she attended and most fondly recalled was the 'Chris Nicholl' 2-2 draw at Leicester in March 1976. As she and my dad were at the opposite end of the ground from where I was standing it was only in the car on the way home that we realised Nicholl had scored for each team, in each net! Since my first match at Villa Park in April 1966 she has said to me before every game: 'I hope Villa win, 66-0'. She continued with this even during her last few weeks in hospital when the family went to visit before a game!
Along with the rest of the family mom was also a follower of Warwickshire C.C.C. and went to many cricket matches at Edgbaston, and four Gillette Cup / NatWest Trophy Finals at Lords between 1964 and 1982.
Mom was a big fan of Gabby, bearing in mind the era in which she saw him play, but always pronounced his surname: 'A
b
on
g
lahor'! It was therefore fitting that he scored the winning goal in the Blues derby yesterday.
Her ashes will be interred adjacent to those of my dad at the family church, St. Marys, Handsworth, being just a few yards away from the graves of both William McGregor and George Ramsay; she will therefore be in good company.
R.I.P. mom; my sister Rosemarie, wife Jane, and sons David and Matthew (all of us regular Villa followers) have some great memories of times shared with you supporting The Villa.

So sorry for your loss Brian. Would have loved to have heard your moms stories about going to Villa in the 1930's and 1940's.
RIP Margaret. Up the Villa. x
