To the Players

Firstly Welcome to Aston Villa Football Club from the fans.

As your aware we've been poor for years now due to bad management from top to bottom and culminating in our relegation last season. As one of the founders of the football league, multiple cup winners and European Champions, the club and its fans are used to some kind of success with the very least to be near or thereabouts competing for honours.

There is an expectation that comes with the shirt but the squad has been transformed in the last year with a new owner and a new manager. With so much change, the seasoned of us realise that it will take time for the whole club to adjust e.g. manger's methods, gel together, new playing style, stabilise the team etc. you get the picture.

Within all this the fans don't expect you to win every game. What we do expect is for you to bust a gut for ninety minutes, play as a team and enjoy your football playing in one of the best stadiums in the country, infront of YOUR fans because we are behind you - the club, its fans and you the players are ONE.

If we're beaten, we can hold our hands up and say they're better than us sportsman like but not if you roll over and your heads drop at the first setback. Remember the fans respond to honesty and hard work and will roar you on, every pass, every shot, every save and above all every goal.

We believe in your abilities and trust the manager to select the right players to do as he asks and play to your individual strengths becoming more than the sum of your parts. Learn from each other, trust each other and become the team you are meant to be.

Glory and History await you.

The Fans.

I like what you say........but isn't it a bit too much for each of them to read at one sitting ? Maybe story-time at 2:00pm would be a good opportunity to read it to them?
Well written young sir.

I tend to agree with you Bob - players are so removed from the fans these days.  It's purely a job for them and a way to loads of dosh no matter how little still or talent they may have.

Witton - imagine how much the "really teriffffick " players ( we all have opinions of those ) would have been worth or have been earning  IF they were with us today !? But the fact is - they seemed to us, that they really cared about the Villa and wanted to do well within the fold. Only when the ridiculous transfers started to come in, did we start to gain and lose players who moved for money.
Me ? I moved jobs several times for better money and no shame felt !

Difference is sport is a vocation.  Even as a youngster you develop attachments to your club or group and it is really not the done thing between peers for someone to swop clubs.  The issue being is that the footballers "we admire" day in  day out are told from such a young age how great they are and they live in bubble.  For them they cannot see anything untoward in moving from club to club, as this is like an office job to them.

Even 30/40 years ago the players used to live in the communities they played for.

That's right. My Dad got me MacParland and Dugdale's autographs when they came into his taylors shop in Erdington High Street. They used to travel to VP on the bus even then in the early 60's.

Dear pampered self centered arseholes, start doing what you get a handsome salary for and go out and give your all and while your doing that take a good look around especially at away games, where the guys shouting out your name and the great institution you have the pleasure of representing, have in all probability spent hours in traffic and large amounts of coinage for the privilege, with their ticket expense, meals and the like, to watch you all look at each other when you go a goal down and have as much clue as Donald Trump in a Mexican brothel, as to what to do to put things right.
