Allegedly we're talking to this fella Stramaccioni. Allegedly.
I hope this is true.  Not that I know anything about the bloke or if he is right for us, but if we are talking to young coaches with a good reputation for bring young players through then we are at least starting to think outside the box.  My greatest fear was to hear we were talking to Moyes etc.

Yes, this guy and Smith seem to have the right kind of profile at least and aren't just the usual suspects. Hopefully there are a few more candidates with the same reputation on their list too.

I do hope that if Bruce is leaving, it's done quickly and in a dignified way and we don't have speculation with him still in post for weeks. Whatever his shortcomings as a manager, he's a decent bloke and deserves to be treated with respect.

I've just had a look at his managerial record on Wikipedia. Good grief it's shite! He's a former defender too.

If we're after someone who 'can work with kids' but has absolutely no experience as a manager in this country why not just give Delaney the job ?

Ridiculous idea i know.

Agreed (although I'd prefer Smith to the Italian candidate). A forward-thinking manager might also help the wounds heal faster and get some fire stirring in the team again ahead of pre-season, so ideally it would be good to have it sorted in the next week or two. Cut-throat maybe, but as Sheffield says, it doesn't really serve Bruce or anybody to hang around waiting.

yes, it does seem an odd one.  It's more the reputation with working with kids I was latching on to, but this blokes record does seem very poor.

I do agree with you that it is refreshing for rumours not to be about the same old incompetent wankers who are deemed to be 'big enough' for the club.

Still pretty young though, so he might just be on the cusp of an upward curve and he'll do it with us...?

Ugh I hate being this desperate.

Dean Smith does seem the safest bet as he's well established in the league and ticks the most boxes.  But the thought of unearthing the next Wagner, Nuno or Jokanović is very appealing.

I'm not sure how poor it is really.  Most managers end up with a win rate of something between 40-45% unless they spend years at a top side so his record is pretty much average. His profile is, as you say, the interesting bit because it suggests they're looking at using the U23s a lot more.

Of course

But you're more likely to get Daniel Farke or whoever the leeds manager was at the start of the season

And villa are ESPECIALLY  more likely to do that
