Without having a go at anyone at all it strikes me as a bit jarring to be discussing this on a thread called 'Bruce out' - anyone else think a name change would make sense?

A dreadful time for the Bruce family. So much more important than football.

Alex Bruce has said on twitter that his Dad will be on the touchline on Sunday.  I'm surprised, it would have been perfectly understandable if he'd taken the weekend off to deal with all this.

Different people deal with grief in different ways.  I think I'd want to carry on as normal as possible too.

I reckon I'd want time alone. But, as you say, people deal with grief differently and whatever works best for him is all that matters.

I was surprised he never gave the pre-match press conference yesterday. Now I know why.

Sincere condolences to Steve Bruce and his family.

There was talk at the derby game that his car was not in his usual place and he was nowhere to be seen pre match then when he did turn up right at no he looked terrible. Maybe the news broke to him it would happen soon.

Poor man. As others have said real life puts everything into perspective.

Let's hope the boys can give him something to end this shit year on a better note.

Thoughts  with the Bruce family

RIP Sheenagh.
A very tough time for SB, especially so soon after his Dad.

It might not have come as a shock as his dad has done. His mother has been quite seriously ill for some time.

Horrible how this happens; one goes so close to the other.

Our elderly neighbours died recently, one in November his wife in March.  The only thing I can offer as a crumb of comfort to the Bruce family is, that they can do all their grieving at pretty much the same time.  Should there have been a larger gap between the passing of his parents then all the upset and hurt starts all over again just as the mind would have been adjusting to the painful loss.  Small comfort I know but thinking about it, it may help.

It's win or bust basically. Don't go up and we're basically starting from scratch. No guarantee the loan players won't get snapped up on permanent deals by other clubs. Hutton and Terry probably gone because of the money situation.  I make that 6/7 players down by the end of May with probably not the money to replace them, so then you're looking at selling players to raise funds and somewhat unfairly, clubs only want our decent players..........Add to that the likes of Jedinak and whelan looking their age

None of that is Bruce's fault particularly, but the whole "get promoted asap and then worry about building a team" philosophy that brought him here is. If we are still in the Championship next season with a major rebuilding job on our hands and little money to do it with, then Bruce wouldn't be my choice, and you'd have to say the job he was brought in for no longer exists.
The team is in a better state than when he came and for that he deserves credit. This may sound ridiculous but if we get promoted he isn't a Premier League manager so get rid and if we don't maybe he deserves half a season to try again as he is one of the better Championship managers.
