When you see where Cardiff are with much less money spent then you have to say he has underperformed.

Or Cardiff have over performed.
No not really. Cardiff have 67 points from 34 games that at less than 2 points is not great. So far all the chasing pack to Wolves has under performed.

Depends on what finances have been available to each club really to judge, last year Burton managed to stay up with next to nothing in money available did they under perform because they were way below Newcastle?

Cardiff are an odd one. They haven't spent huge amounts and are a typical Colin team. Solid defensively, organised, cheats and full of giants.

I get the impression injuries hurt them far less because it doesn't make a huge amount of difference which particular cheating giants they biff it in the air to.

It is ugly to watch but very effective.

Im surprised we're in touching distance really, given the awful start we had. The home match against them might be of huge significance.

Just shows the strength of Villa's squad to be in 3rd spot. If Wolves had had half of their squad out they wouldn't be near top spot. Their fans are bemoaning the loss of Neves through suspension; they look very ordinary without him. That's only one player!

The iffy start didn't really concern me as much as it did others. There was such a long way to go at that stage. There's still a lot of football to played now and we're entering March.

We had iffy starts in '87-'88 and '89-'90 and finished second each time. Let's hope history repeats itself.

Losing to Cardiff and Reading didn't concern you?

Not that early in the season no.

There will be plenty of twists and turns yet. All the games that people think should be easy won't be as teams will be scrapping to stay up, the sides at the top will get the jitters (especially with little experience) and it goes on.

I do think we're in a good place and have learnt how to win playing badly, which is always nice. It's not quite in our hands, but I'm confident.

Agreed. A couple of weeks ago Cardiff fans would have looked at us, 7 straight wins thinking they are playing for play off spot. Instead things changed very quickly in large down to two key injuries. It can happen to any team, and if Cardiff or Fulham have a key injury or two, or an unlucky bounce, goalkeeping error or whatever, they can lose a game or two quickly. Or just drop points as teams around them pick up points. Lots will change, and that goes for us too. The pressure will be on us now to close that gap.

Cardiff and Derby look like being the big six pointers between now and the end of the season.

Cardiff are at home to Small Heath on March 10th. The noses have already played Derby twice.
