Isn't he in the last year of his deal, so would go for free?

We would've sold him in January if that was the situation.

We need to get better at cashing in on squad players as we're rising. I'm not suddenly expecting us to become experts at it like Chelsea who loan endless players out for 5 years who never play for them and still get 10-15m or Liverpool who have received 20m + off likes of Bournemouth and Sheffield United in recent years for Solanke and Brewster but it would be good to raise an o.k amount from player sales each summer rather than just rely on the owners all the time.

That strategy hit the skids pretty badly in summer 2010 once Lerner decided he was done pumping in 50m each summer to sign a new defence so we need to start self-sustaining a little bit.

Hourihane certainly in 5m range at least and El Ghazi's purple patch of form over xmas means his value should be around what we paid for him given he's still mid 20s. Add in Nakamba aswell who's done o.k when he's started and those are three players who will never be regulars when we're top 6 again but you could sell them and raise around 20m I reckon and that could go towards a decent striker or wide player.

A while back, I think during the summer before our 2nd year in the championship, there being a post about which of our players would be wanted by premier league teams and the majority consensus was pretty much non of them. At the time I posted something along the lines of a relegation battling team team would take a player like him because he will score and create chances even if is all round game isn't good enough. I've never changed from that opinion, he's a great squad player for a team like we were last season where he can come in a change a game a few times a season. In the championship if you play to his strengths I think he is easily good enough to get 10-15 goals and assists a season and that is enough to make the difference. He's the opposite of players like Adama who look like they should be hugely threatening but just don't turn that into goals or assists enough.

Yeah I was really surprised someone like Burnley didn't come in for him in January as he fits the Dyche model of being home grown, around the premier league for a while (as Westwood and Lowton had been when Burnley signed them off us) and given how they play another player good on set pieces would be good option for them.

Suppose the odd prem club will come in for him in the summer so if Swansea go up and they have no agreement to sign him permanetly that will create a nice bidding war.

Cardiff on a great run atm so can certainly see Mick McCarthy wanting him if they come up.

Totally agree with this Paul, and I was surprised Smethwick didn't come in for him for those reasons outlined, although in fairness Snodgrass gives you that too.

I think Swansea, if they get promoted, would be a good move for our Conor.  As others have said, I'd expect him to be in or around the Premier League for a few seasons yet.  He's far too good for the Championship.  If we can move him on for about £5m, we'd have made a tidy profit on a squad player, and he's not really being priced out of a move - it's peanuts by Premier League standards.

Conor making a hero of himself with the swans fans, taking time out to goad colin wanker and the rest of his bench after their late winner yesterday.

Well he has form for getting stuck in for a scrap cf. The "battle" of Elland Road.

He was also first on the scene when that fat Bloser attacked Grealish.

We could still use him off the bench. A brilliant player at that level, and good enough to help us against the likes of Newcastle.

...and the goals just keep on coming for Conor.
Serious question obviously Conor was the deadball specialist, when was the last time we scored from a corner kick assist or from a free-kick assist or even direct from a free-kick?
I know we have Jack, Barkley, Traore and El Ghazi who have tried to take over this mantle, but my memory is struggling to think how successful they've been unless I'm missing something.
Free-kicks and corners are an essential part of the game from which advantages can be gained. This needs addressing in the summer transfer window if as suspected Conor moves on permanently.

There's been a few times when commentators have brought up stats of how many goals from set pieces the team we're playing have conceded. And then we hit the man on the front post or play a short corner that comes to nothing.

Our set-piece delivery is currently as bad as our crossing. In hindsight letting Conor go wasn't a great decision. I'm sure he'd add more in the 10 role than Barkely has.

You can’t just bring a player on take free kicks and corners. He became a decent option once in a while when we rotated but at the time we just had better starting options. It’s the same as Guilbert. Just Sod’s law that Cash got injured but if he hadn’t he’d have been third choice for that position. I’m delighted both of them are doing really well and in the case of Guilbert I hope he comes back to legitimately challenge Cash next season.

There's no way that Guilbert should have been behind Elmo in the pecking order.
