Fully behind him if he starts tonight vs West Ham.
Noting how JWP of Southampton seems to offer little else than a free kick and set piece. Hourihane can be viewed in a similar vein.
Ward-Prowse puts himself about in a way that Conor seems unable to.
That said, I hope he gets the Barkley berth tonight.

Certainly had opportunities to make a mark.
2 free kicks for shots and wished one went in

I'm thinking 3rd time a charm second half v West Ham if he gets another opportunity.

I also thought he put in a delightful set piece on more than one occasion.
But very true he has hardly put himself about.

Couple of nice edge of area link up and runs in box but hardly apparent Luiz is running that midfield tonight

He just isn’t mobile enough at this level

Yep, just doesn't quite get around well enough.

He simply cannot tackle at all.

He's Barnsley, with a good free kick,

Great guy, not for us now,

Thought he played well tonight. We thoroughly dominated midfield, Luiz in particular was outstanding but Hourihane was very tidy on the ball. Very limited without the ball as always but we have a few like that including Barkley.

In a nice way, he is the sort of player we need to “transition” away from even if it means we have to watch umpteen amazing free kicks fly into the top corner for his new club.  We kinda know he isn’t enough of a nuisance, or have the ability to control games, to make it at the level we aspire to be.

I groaned when I saw the team sheet before the game. I'd rather have Ramsey in the side.  He went the wrong side with his free kick too. We carry Conor and Trezeguet far too often.

A bit of a Hitzlsperger for the modern generation. A good option to have mainly cos of his left foot. But yeah, probably not a starter in a top-half team.

I thought he played well tonight, we completed bossed the midfield. He definitely doesn't deserve to be singled out after that performance. So, no he shouldn't be a regular starter but he's a crucial squad player who will slowly slip down the pecking order as we improve.

Did nothing tonight, not good enough.

Is the correct answer. I don't see the appeal at all. A Westwood that scores occasionally.

Watched him second half trying to get back to cover and he just ran out of steam. I would hate to be a young player trying to break in to this side it appears Dean wants to keep playing the same record.

He wasn't good enough the year we came up so the fact he still gets game time now is tragic.

I was pleased he got the chance, but he didn’t do nearly enough. Two or three times things didn’t come off for him, he threw his head back and stopped. Just not good enough.

He can’t complain if he isn’t in for Newcastle now.
