I had assumed that by now, after a takeover and a summer transfer window, we'd have a manager who knew how he wanted his team to play and had recruited the players to fit his system, rather than simply buying a load of names and desperately casting around for some way to shoehorn the decent ones into the side and avoid playing the shite ones too often.

It seems I was being uncharacteristically optimistic.
