To be fair though, the only ones that look like real duffers are Elphick and the Beard of Doom. Gollini and Tsibola were good shouts for the future, but not necessarily to be first choice now (especially Gollini). McCormack and Kodjia look good but you could argue were not really necessary at the prices we paid as we already had Ayew, Gestede, Kozak and Hepburn-Murphy so 1 modest new signing would probably have sufficed there. They are also suffering from a lack of creativity and an unbalanced team. De Laet got injured and Adomah hasn't played much yet so we don't know on those 2. Chester looks a decent one.
The problem is that the serious money was spent in the wrong areas, and that the manager has no idea how to use what he has.

He was a great leader for Bmth and good captain...but he never got a sniff there once he got injured. Think he played about the first 4 games for them.
Saw him play against us in our last away win and remember thinking "boy he was slow...".

Carthorse, looks like a lower league player who had his season in the sun with Bournemouth in the way many players do, played above his level. Looks a turd of a centre back, no actual qualities I can think of, would rather have block head Baker throwing his face at shots and getting injured every 45 minutes.

He wasn't just popular withj Bournemouth fans though he did well at previous clubs and was really well thought of. Chatting to PNE fans before and after the game, they thought both hime and Jedinak were really good players at this level and were shocked how badly they played.

A bowl of soup has more shape than the team did yesterday, put them all in a proper formation, with clear roles and simple instructions and watch the team climb the table.

I think I voiced the concern when we signed him that having a good character is great, but if your not good enough to pull your weight as a player it's no use at all. I'm a bit concerned that Elphick isn't up to it as a player.

On top of that, I think his confidence is shattered.  I think we sometimes forget that even in our current position,  there is added pressure signing for a club like Villa and some players find it hard to cope with.

I honestly think a big part of our defensive issues is that we set up way too open and don't play as a cohesive unit. I think Westwood would look better in a midfield 5 for example where he is essentially playing the Richardson role of keeping the play ticking over. Ask him to do more than that he's exposed. Our midfield problems also exposes the defence, a problem that has been ongoing for ages now. Having 4 or 5 forward is useless. If they cannot get the ball, and by nature don't really contribute defensively then you get a set up that makes no sense at all. The football is completely disjointed and lacks any kind of chemistry or cohesion.

The only way Jedinak could play centre back would be if we entered the Intertoto Comedy Cup and got a bye to the final for having the most slapstick defence combo of Jedinak, Richards and Elphick.
