Does anyone of the older generation of Villa remember this match? It was notable because Bobby Tambling scored five goals for Chelsea but the most memorable thing for me was the standing ovation Tambling received at the end of the from from virtually every Villa fan in the ground. If this happened these days I doubt very much if a visiting player would get such a reaction from the present generation of Villa (or any other fans for that matter)Times have changed and not necessarily for the better.

I stood and applauded Scholes goal towards to North Stand several seasons ago. I got a round of fucks for doing so but I'm always happy to acknowledge class.

It would have to be an exceptional player or achievement, but I'd do the same.

The Manchester United supporters gave Ronaldo (the original one) a standing ovation at Old Trafford when he was substituted having detroyed them when playing for Real Madrid.Nothing wrong with showing a bit of appreciation for a world class performance.

I coach amateur football - I've always been the only parent/coach man enough to applaud an outstanding opposition goal. Footballs so screwed up! You're winning six nil, your opposition are still fighting, one of them pulls off something outstanding from nowhere and it's considered a weakness to applaud them.
