Muller
« on: March 06, 2016, 09:40:57 AM »
Why did Villa start the 1993/1994 season with no sponsor? I'm assuming that Doug couldn't sort one, but that seems very unlike him, to miss out on something involving money. Can anyone shed any light on this please?

Yes - Muller didn't appear on shirts until late September/early October.

Away at Oldham was the first time we wore the Muller sponsor logo. Cue a load of jokes about us being good at corners. We drew 1-1 I think and it was freezing as usual up there.

yep we went behind, had a perfectly good goal from Guy Whittingham chalked off and then Deano Saunders grabbed an equaliser. Really should have won that game too. I don't think we ever beat Oldham in the time they were in the top flight? An early Premier League bogey team. They did us the week before Wembley in 1994 too.

I bought the home shirt in August with no logo then the club ironed one on for free once it was announced.

I had the same shirt. I decided not to bother with the sponsor logo.

I seem to recall a time when you paid an additional fee for the sponsor to be added to a replica shirt to make it authentic and in line with the first team.

These days I wish they offered the option to just buy the shirt without it.

Neither did I. My shirt from then has Paul McGrath's signature where the Muller logo should be.

We beat Oldham 1-0 (big Cyrille got the goal) at home the season before Murdoch invented football.

Ah Oldham ,strange how one of my best ever away games and worst ever away games were both against Oldham. First there was the 6-0 win where Andy Lochhead got a hat trick and then the cup game on the plastic pitch where i think we lost 3-0 ,not sure of the final score as it is one of the few games i left well before the end and have tried to erase from my memory

And don't forget it was their defeat of us that gave the title to Man Utd in 92/93 although I think it was really the Blackburn drumming which was the key loss.

I have the home version of Muller kit, and its a Wembley special edition too.  Can remember having a soft spot for the terrible green away stript.  Now I see it for the disater it is, but then that makes me want it all the more!

I have both versions of the home shirt, with and without the Wembley stuff. And the away one, can't remember if that is the Wembley edition or not. I doubt any of them would fit me now, i'm a tad wider now than I was 20 years ago when I bought them!

Fair.  I was about 13 or 14 when I got the home verison and am amazed that it still fits me, but it still does and I wear it quite often on a match day.  Have Saunders on the back.  Might still get the pizza kit just for retro and collectabilty purposes.

i had three of those Muller home kits. One with Saunders 9 and with Wembley winners badge on, one with Whittingham 22 and winners badge on and one with no sponsor or name on back. Still got Whittingham top and still fits but last August i bought slightly larger retro top version. Got the green red and black too and wear both Muller tops frequently
