Pooligan gave the most likely explanation of the Chopra issue a few posts above and there is talk that Barker is injured, although i is hard to get confirmation about either case.

What I do know though, is that Bell said in a pre-season interview posted on this forum that were blessed with a wealth of seamers and it would be difficult to know who to leave out. He went further and stated that we would use the successful Yorkshire strategy of rotating the seam attack so that they would not  blow up early in the season, which to be fair has happened to us quite a lot in recent seasons.

As I argued at the time, I don't think we are as good as quite a few pundits and the betting markets made out. The Middlesex spinner whose name I forget wrote on Espncricinfo last year that we were preparing wickets for Jeetan Pate, l which rings true to me.

I have a feeling come the next championship match that dear old Dougie will work Westwood back in to the team on the back of his 230 not out in the 2nd XI a couple of days back .This despite young Umeed scoring a century on his only performance so far.

The big difference here is Bell needs to realise Yorkshire have an embarrassment of riches in this department, they could leave out someone like Sidebottom or Brookes and bring in Bresnan or Willey. We can't afford to be much off full strength to compete, maybe one bowler rested/injured/away with England at once.

Spot on.

Ronchi has been called up by New Zealand so he will go back in early July. The Bears are deciding whether to replace him with another overseas star or not.

Not much choice left. Anyone worth having would have been snapped up already, unless we can take one of the Sri Lankan touring party.

With the exception of McCullum we've really struggled to capture the imagination with our overseas stars. A poor show.

I'd argue otherwise. Other than Sangakarra I'd say our overseas players have been good players that have contributed heavily for us. Yes, not the box office players but important team players. Spinners seem to have concentrated our thinking over recent summers.

We should be getting box office players. Get the crowds in. I'd never even heard of this NZ bloke before.

Pretty big name on the 20/20 circuit and is certainly not an unknown.

You cannot question the impact that many of the Bears oversees signings have had over the years. Donald, Pollock, Lara, Sangakarra, Steyn, McCullum and now Jeetan Patel. However we should be in the market for a marquee signing like a Gayle a Dhoni or an Afridi.

Why don't we sign a high-profile International from either India or Pakistan? Given the demographic of the local population, I'm certain that a signing like this would provide a huge boost to attendances in limited over cricket and open up whole new commercial markets.

It does make me question whether we have the money to fund such a signing whilst we're paying for the new pavilion.

I'm not doubting the quality of some of them, but you're going back a few years. Since Twenty20 came along we've gone without a big name more often than we've had one.
