...we went to Chelsea and battered them. New Year's Day 1990. Went down in my brothers MG Metro (5 of us) and left the car outside Bromton Cemetary. Quick stroll through the churchyard and into that massive curved bank behind the goal. I think they hit the inside if the post before we scored but once we did they fell apart. Was it 3-0 or 3-1?

Always remember some lads dancing to Sidney Youngblood Sit & wait at half time and thinking it was hilarious.

Great days

3-0 win. I actually have the highlights in a 60 minute video produced by Chelsea. Prior to that we beat Man Utd 3-0 on Boxing Day and Arsenal  2-0 a couple of days later. Great days indeed. What a Christmas and New Year that was! Probably the best I can remember!

Sorry, we beat Arsenal 2-1; David Platt scored a stunner!

I went to this game with a massive hangover, in fact I think many of the Villa fans on the crumbling old terrace had bad heads as well!
Another fine win, most notable for a great Tony Daley goal, although beating Chelsea at that time was perhaps the equivalent of beating Sunderland.

We're fucking back!!! That young Olney's starting to look a bit tired. Get a quality centre-forward in to help him out, and we'll piss this.
Ah well, ifs, buts and maybes.
Still, that period, when we looked like we could smash, and I mean proper smash, anyone were such exciting times. But then again, rampant table-toppers beat mid-table no-hopers, no surprise really....
A roller-coaster three years I'd chew my own arm off for now.

our fixtures on New Years Day over the years. Pretty good although admittedly only one New Years Day game in the last five years of shite. 1996 was fun with THAT goal from Alan Wright.

As I remember this was 6 months before David Platt went from being fairly unknown to household name following the dramatic world goal against Belgium, I'm sure I've got these goals from the ITV news that night on VHS where the reporter refered to him as "Andy" Platt.

Yep, I was definately hungover at this one. It was freezing as well in that old terrace miles from the rest of the ground, with no shelter. I remember the Police kept us in the ground for ages afterwards as well.

Yep, it was 3-0, I was there, it was before football got cool. I remember the crumbling open terrace, which was sparsely populated. It may have been this match, it may have been a little later, but I got the train into London the next day and met (and had a quick chat with) Vinnie Jones who lived near me at the time. I am pretty sure he was on his way to Lancaster Gate for a hearing.
