Didn't know that about the cup-winning team at all. Those old footballs really did some damage, then.

Very good article. Yesterday R5 replayed a recent interview from Radio Scotland with Jimmy Hill's wife. She broke down crying in the middle of it. I've only spent a couple of hours in the company of someone with Alzheimer's. It was incredibly draining, can't imagine how people who have to deal with it permanently manage.

it’s a must-win although anyone looking for owens will notice that we’ve won just one Boxing Day fixture this century.
If we had an Owen we might win one more.

Well done for bringing attention to Alzheimer's disease.
It is sometimes worth remembering there are some things more important than football.

Just when I think you've ran out of thread titles you pull another out of the bag. Good read Dave.

My missus reckons I've got brain damage all down to those leather like a brick balls we used to use. I envy the players today. It seems that with advanced medical knowledge there are a lot of sports that carry a risk. Jimmy Hill a good bloke and a gentleman.

I went on the stadium tour and dinner with a legend event a few weeks ago. Chris Nicholl was the special guest. He mentioned that he is now suffering from brain damage.

Good read Dave.

I'm pretty sure that to those playing professionally today, even outside the Premier, the notion of a £20 per week maximum wage is virtually impossible to comprehend.
You never know, if the Alzheimers/football connection could receive even more publicity, there just might be a chance that the mega-rich stars of today could be involved in some high-profile, pro-active fund raising.
(Not a whole weeks wages of course, far too radical!)

That's an absolute shocker, but not a surprise.
