Haven't checked  but have we ever had a good run of victories in the league against  Man Ure.  My favourite one was the the 76-77 - the atmosphere was electric.  Used to be very much like a Derby  Match when we played them at Villa Park.

I remember an  easy victory away late 70's and will always fill we threw the cup game in 77 not on purpose but through tiredness and injuries.

I seem to remember we had an excellent home record against them in the mid ro late 1970s

1974-75 W 2-0
1975-76 W 2-1
1976-77 W 3-2
1977-78 W 2-1
1978-79 D 2-2
1979-80 L 0-3  (but we won't mention that)
1980-81 D 3-3

Remember the away that we won at OT - Chelsea were at Bolton that same day, murder in Manchester City Centre after the game.

As I said  the atmosphere was as good as if not better than when we played Small Heath - just this time it was Newton Heath.  The 3-2 game was the standout one was it Mortimer or Gidman with the power driver?

Did we play them in  the league cup in 75 at Home ?  Remember the City match  in the league cup (the one my mum barred me from after I got clouted at Maine Road the week before).

Mortimer scored with a pile driver to make it 1-1 in the 3-2 win at home in 1976-77.

Yes we did play them in the League Cup in October 1975 (Lost 1-2).  If I remember correctly a young 19 year old recently signed from Dundee United (by the name of Andy Gray) scored a last minute consolation for us.

Yes that draw against Coventry who came for a 0-0 draw and were over the moon when they achieved it. I remember their fans cheering as if they had won the cup.Nice to help put them down a few years later hopefully to never return

Yep. Walked out the Holte thinking a goaless draw wasnt so bad as Ud were losing at the time. Got back to the car and on shit they had won 2 one.

Watched the one all v Utd in the Holte suite

Also watched the Blackburn 3 nil debacle in The Trinity with a big screen on the pitch. Not many had Sky in those days. Three early goals and out season was over

I was in the 7th Trap for the Man U  game and missed my sunday league game , I don't  think they missed me. Can't see it on that clip , but I am sure when Staunton's rocket flew in a Villa fan jumped up arms aloft in the stretford end.

the Coventry 0-0 game which I think was the home before Man Utd 3-2 or the home immediately after - what I remember the two teams fans  each  doing a Walk On with those giant team photos they gave out before the match.  Villa was their cup final no doubt.

This was the crunch...we were the better team that day and Steve Staunton hit an absolute screamer.  When it flew in, United and the Sky commentators that day knew we were for real (and duly shit themselves!). As much as I loved Dalian why couldn't Ron have just kept Dwight Yorke in the side for just a few more games. Yes, I know we dropped easy points in the run-in, but in regards to Fergie time a few games later, the Premier League should hang it's head in shame.

Still think there was a push by Cantona on Bryan Small for their goal.

If I remember right we were seated in one of the side stands for the first time in 1993. Every time I had been there previously, starting in 1988 we were always standing behind the goal.
