I didn't know Malta had more than one place. I thought it was Valletta and that was it apart from a few bomb craters and an old air strip let over from the war.

There is an old army saying "toenails like a Maltese policeman".  Is it true?

Malta is a second home for me and the family although we tend to go to Gozo these days.

what sort of toenails does a policeman in Malta have? Are they a bit like a Hobbit's?

When I went to an American Football match at Wembley in November I was sat next to about 10 foreign lads. I asked where they were from and they said "Malta". I said "Valletta?" and they looked at me in the same way as I would look at someone if I'd told them I was from Britain and they'd said "London?".

They were from Birkirkara btw.

If we bring anybody in it will be on loan and from abroad. Remi doesn't know the British market so our chances of getting Crouch and Walters from Stoke are non existent. He may well have never heard of them.

It's well-known that it's nearly impossible to see Premier League football unless you're living in England.

There a lot of ex pats I know in Portugal who watch the Premiership via the internet.

I live in Malta and watch every Villa game, home or away on the telly or down the pub. They have 7 sports channels and each one is dedicated to a different match on a Saturday.

Whereabouts in Malta my parents live in Qawra.
I live in Antigua and have the choice of 4 live games Saturday morning, all the Sunday and Midweek Premier games....Heaven.

I do wonder how long it will take for someone to coin the phrase 'upstate London' for places like West Yorkshire.

We've just opened an office in Malta and I was there last month. That Paceville area is certainly, ahem, interesting 😳

You must give me a shout if you are ever over here again, especially if there is a game on.

Yes, Paceville is a wee bit decadent. Not exactly in keeping with the old reputation Malta had as a retirement home. So much foreign industry has flooded in now which of course has its advantages in pulling the island into the 21st century but of course there are negatives. Prices on certainly on the rise, especially in St Julians/Sliema where most the ex-pats congregate. Even boozing isn't as cheap as it was five years ago and it's impossible to buy cheap 2nd hand cars or new furniture and homeware anyway. Still, 9 months of summer and all that.

Precisely that. Running the gauntlet sums it up quite well. Around St Julian's is nice though.

If we both end up wanting the same cardy, I can see a nasty bout of nuggies kicking off.

Must be a relief having so many games to watch on tv, what with the weather being so crap!!!

Great four pages dedicated to the Maltese Tourist board. Quiet day on the transfer front?
