Italian press now saying Sirigu was watched last night and kept a clean sheet Aston Villa expected to make a £6 million bid to take the Italian no2 keeper to Villa Park.

I was going to ask why he'd want to go to a relegation bound club. However, if he wants plenty of action in order to show the Italian coach how good he is, Villa is the club to join.

Chuckle... But I can certainly see Brad being a back up keeper sometime in January whether it is this Italian bloke or not

What a legend this Belgian lad could be if he comes in and keeps us up with 15 goals for the second half of the season.

Literally that is the only chance we have of staying up.

So with our past recruitment I will just assume I will see everyone at the Ricoh next season when them clowns get promoted

Not entirely surprising. He's better than what we have which isn't saying much I grant you.

Cissokho is toss, but compared to Kieron Richardson it's like signing Roberto Carlos.

Cissokho is absolute dog shit going forward, he really does my nut in and was one of the main reasons we didn't score many goals with him in the team. Defensively... he's not the worst though, just don't let him go any further than the half-way line.

Yep.  Play a wide player in front of him and just tell Cissokho to give him the ball.  Ditto Richards on the other side and concentrate on having a solid back four.

We're still Aston Villa. We still are hanging onto that bit of class.
Players will join for a variety of reasons. Money being No 1 obviously.
Sirigu would be a class way to start.
I believe a lot of our problems go back to not getting Begovic, then basically making no attempt for any other No 1 keeper.
To go into a Premier Season with only one keeper of note was a disaster waiting to happen.

Yep.  Sherwood obviously decided Guzan wasn't good enough last season and replaced him with Given, yet was in a position where Guzan started the season as number one choice again.

Also not getting Cambiasso and then making no attempt to sign another decent experienced holding mid.
Also not getting Adebayor and making no attempt to sign another decent experienced goalscoring striker (loan bid for Gayle on deadline day doesn't really count).

The weaknesses were identified but once the no. 1 targets were missed there was no back up plan.  Add to this Lescott being a poor, cheap, ageing replacement for Vlaar, signing a top left back only for him to get injured, signing a decent right back but playing him at centre half and filling out the squad with unproven low level cheap/loan players like Ilori, Crespo, Sarkic and Bunn and further long term injuries/mystifying disappearances for Okore, Kozak, Gardner etc. and it's no surprise we're struggling.

In fairness Begovic, Cambiasso and Adebayor had they come, and we would probably a lot better off. Not having any alternatives lined up for them was pretty poor.

I'll take Cissokho over what we have at the moment.

Porto allowed him to miss training today so he could take care of 'personal business'. They don't want him. He's made 3 appearances since he went on loan. Two of those were before they signed a proper left back. The other was in a Mickey Mouse Cup game.

Why did they take him then?

In fairness, he is much more solid defensively than anyone else we have fit, so worth getting back.

If you look at his record for us, it's not that bad at all

http://www.soccerbase.com/players/player.sd?player_id=51175&season_id=144

only against Everton, Chelsea and Arsenal did we concede more than 2

in 27 games we had 7 wins and 7 draws. We also only lost 7 times to teams outside of the top 4

Not saying he's a world beater or anything, but a decent record. Especially compared to Gils 19 appearances and only 1 victory (to Notts county) haha  ;)
