If we do get relegated we need a clear out and build a team on energy and talent to not only get us out of the Championship but be able to hold their own back in the PL under the direction of a tactically astute manager.

Linked with Michael Keane from Burnley according to Newsnow.

Another young inexperienced defender with no experience of top flight football is just what we need.

::) played in the top division last year and was very impressive, much better defender than our captain for one

wouldnt mind seeing the following depart the club asap "by mutual consent" like what West Ham did with Nolan

lets rebuild to the end of the season with a leaner squad, literally in some cases given the fatties below, if we manage a great escape then brilliant, if not then at least some of the heavy lifting will be done ahead of next summer

Agree with these although I think Bennett may have some potential. The rest should be cleared out now.

Think playing for AVFC and the pressure that goes with it was too much for Bennett

He is 25, Brighton didnt keep him on, cant get a kick at Bournemouth.... think he is past the potential stage really

How many of those are out of contract at the end of the season?  By my reckoning, Senderos, N'Zogbia and Cole definitely are and will be gone.  Not sure about the others though.

Keane looked a decent centre half for Burnley in fairness. Also want Andre Gray off them apparently (in same said link).

I think we would need a solid spine bought in and then it would god a case of fitting others around.  A new keeper and a commanding centre half and central midfielder would be a must.  If they don't go up, I would like to see us in for Tom Heaton from Burnley and someone else mentioned Jedinak from Palace who would be good in that division.  As witnessed in the Blues game, pace is key in the Championship and a successful season might just be the thing to build the confidence of the likes of Ayew, Veretout, Gana and a few others.  I also think Gil and Grealish would be very good at that level. We would obviously have to go for a striker  and could either go down the old campaigner route (maybe take Lambert from West Brom or maybe Crouch) or go for an up and coming striker from the lower divisions, like the lad from Wolves.  If Bournemouth went down as well, it might be worth bidding for Wilson seeing as he will just be coming back from injury.

I am thinking we will have a quiet January window (the club will have accepted relegation by that point) . I also think we will have a quiet summer window, few outgoings (our players are of similar or lower quality than Sunderland/Newcastle and who wants them?) and a few incomings of lower quality/wages than we currently have.

He's a great player. I'd be happy with him in the team.

bennett was interviewed last week and he said he would come back to villa a better player. not sure how that works exactly, rubbish at brighton and cant in a team that is as bad as us

Never was and never will be good enough

Not sure who is realistic in January given how poor we are and how far we might be adrift of safety by then.

I can only hope the likes of Gardner, Kozak, Ilori and Adama at least get a look in the second half of the season (fitness permitting) as they can't be much worse than those currently getting a regular game for us - might be an option to recall Cissokho too.

Realistic won't cut it, in terms of getting out of the hole we're in.  Only the real-life equivalents of Cherno Samba, Fredy William Thomson, Ibrahima Bakayoko or Tonton Zola Moukoko could save us from this.

Potential, my arse. I honestly think he's the worst fullback I've ever seen at Villa and I thought no one would ever top Bernie Gallagher for shitness. Bennett certainly does though.
