Ford was fucking awful, terrible defending for their 3rd try and then missed a penalty and drop goal chance to win it.

I thought Spencer had an awful game as well and Earl, for all his ability, is far too predictable to be a consistently effective international 8. NZ played him by giving him a channel to carry into and then closing the door and he kept taking it on and getting smothered.

On the positives I thought both Currys and Cunningham-South were excellent and Martin is a good option to replace the work and dynamism of Lawes in defence.

I thought he ref made some very poor calls that didn't help us either, no idea how Cane was allowed to make 3 off the ball tackles before the ref threatened him with a yellow if he did it again and I have no idea how he missed the high tackle that they eventually went back to near the end.

Baxter is the promising scrummer coming through and he was the one who struggled most. Hopefully he'll learn a lot from that.

Watching it back I think the biggest problem is still that Borthwick is utterly obsessed with percentage rugby and it's sucked all the creativity out of the players. It's Guardiola style, by the numbers rugby.

Spencer at 9 and Ford on the bench ahead of Smith, along with a 6-2 split are all moves to try to keep us hanging in instead of having game winning options. I honestly think he'd have preferred to start with Food but knew he couldn't get away with it.

Borthwick just isn't good enough, that's one of the worst England performances I've seen for years, not because of the players but because of the way we are setup and and tactical decisions he takes.

Ford was fucking shit again though and Spencer is miles short of the quality needed for an international scrum-half, I think I'd rather have Youngs back.

There’s a real lack of structure. Smith’s brilliance is keeping England in games rather than them having a clear gameplan in attack.
