Fabian Delph has spoken of his pride at captaining Villa - and the unbelievable atmosphere in the claret and blue dressing room.

Delph says it's an honour to skipper a club of such rich traditions.

But he believes more good times are on the horizon under Tim Sherwood, a manager he admires greatly.

Delph insists he's having the time of his life in B6 because of the manager's talent and the changing room camaraderie.

He said: "I'm really enjoying it here. And I'm really enjoying being captain of Villa.

"I've always felt since I've been a regular in the side that I had a responsibility anyway.

"It's not really changed me. I'm still the same.

"I still say the same things before games. It hasn't really changed the way I am, the only difference is I've got an armband around me.

"But it is great to be captain of such a big football club.

"It feels like I've been here a long time now and I've never enjoyed my football as much as I am at the moment.

"The gaffer has been amazing with me and the rest of the boys.

"We have a great dressing room and if we get through this season I'm sure we'll be pushing on to better things."

Delph follows in the footsteps of some amazing skippers - the likes of Gareth Barry and Martin Laursen.

But it's Stiliyan Petrov who really stood out with the armband.

He added: "Stiliyan was a big inspiration to me.

"I really looked up to him when I first came to the football club.

"He was a great leader and a great captain.

"We still speak a lot - not just about football. We have remained very good friends since he has stopped playing."
