Reducing Train Fare to Southampton AWAY
« on: May 06, 2015, 06:41:57 PM »
If you purchase an open return train ticket to Southampton, the cost is £84.00.

If you split your ticket the same journey on the same train is £50.50 as follows:

Birmingham New Street to Banbury - £19.10
Banbury to Reading - £12.40
Reading to Southampton - £19.00
Total Price £50.50 no change of trains

If you start your journey at Birmingham Moor Street and change trains at Banbury, the cost is £45.50 as follows:

Birmingham Moor Street to Banbury - £14.10
Banbury to Reading - £12.40
Reading to Southampton - £19.00

Total Price £45.50 CHANGE TRAINS AT BANBURY

Hope this helps.

Any decent parking options if driving down?

edit:
Is there much difference in travel time with the train options posted above?

Not sure if you can get the same thing from Brum but from London, if you go to the Megabuss website and put in London to Southampton, the date and route "any" it will pop up with TRAINS for anything from £7/£11/£15 singles depending when you leave and return, you print off your ticket take it to the station and fanny's your aunt you avoided paying £40 plus with South West Trains. A couple of our London Lions are doing it for the game.

Cant find any train options from Birmingham on Megabus...the only option for London is via train from Waterloo.

Plenty of city centre parking within walking distance

I should be able to leave my car in the hotel car park. Otherwise, I'd probably have used the Eastgate Street multi-storey
