A genuinely interesting thread on RAWK here, about their support, mostly yesterday but in general.

"...outsung by a bunch of supporters who had probably averaged a pair of home games all season."

Spoken like a true Norwegian. F**k off.

I see it was the wind directions fault...

Also further down 'should have been a routine win'. Seems strange for Liverpool fans to think that given that we beat them at Anfield quite regularly.

Ive been reading that, I particularly like the term 'wanker hats'. It seems hatred of half and half scarves isn't restricted to on here, which is good.

Is it me or does that whole club feel like it's in a state of long-term decline? The freak second-place last year notwithstanding they've not done much in the league or cups for a while, and they've not won the league in a decade and a half.

Sure, seems a bit rich to say all that as a Villa fan (what we wouldn't give for a fluke second place!), but they've been thoroughly eclipsed up in that corner of the world by one club from Manchester, and now the other one is ahead of them in most respects.

It was also very interesting to read their observations on that thread about the Villa support, namely that it was younger and a lot more ethnically diverse. They feel like a relic from the 70s off and on the pitch, now. It's a slow death if it is a death, but I hope it continues.

I think you are right. Nearly 10 years since they won something other than the League Cup now, which is poor by their standards. They don't look remotely close to winning the league again in the foreseeable future and they are now struggling to convince their better players to stay or the top drawer players to join them.

Agree with most of that, but a decade and a half since they won the league? isn't it closer to 25 years?

When the final whistle went yesterday I was too stunned to do anything. I was just overwhelmed. The guy behind me gave my shoulder a shake and said "come on our kid, we're in the final!"

A day to be remembered.

Yep, meant to say 'two and a half decades'.

The replay of Benteke celebrating the equaliser, with the camera shot from behind the goal was wonderful. The camera pans across a writhing sea of joy.

Also the look on Delph's face is a picture as he appears to be nervously laughing at Benteke screaming, shouting, going completely and utterly mental.

Liverpool with Gerrard have maneouvred into that tricky area where you've got a player of immense emotional stature at the club, and you know he's leaving soon, so you get big matches like this and the heart starts to battle with the head over whether he should play or not.

He's clearly finished at this level, it was pretty pitiful to watch yesterday.

The one time in the last two seasons I've seen him look anything like the player he was was against Wimbledon in the earlier rounds, which probably tells you everything.

I was pleased he was playing as well as despite the off chance he'll pull out a stunning long range goal his general performance was always going to hinder them. To be fair they acknowledge he's finished on RAWK as well.

More like the sharp intake of breath from their end every time Jack, Charlie or Christian got on the ball.

Love these comments:

"Our vocal support was as bad as I have ever heard it.
Totally out sung by villa from start to finish.
We have become a total joke"

"Yeah was shit. Most choosing not to join in with singing.  What singing there was was muffled and muted by shit Wembley acoustics not helped by the wind blowing from Villa's end towards us. Lots of Wanker Hats and 50/50 scarves being worn too."

"Our support was shit today. Outsung more than the team was outplayed."

"Villa fans were amazing today. Totally blew us away."

"It was utterly dire to be honest, was unfortunate enough to be sitting in with the villa, and I barely heard our supporters all through the game, ad that wasn't down to wind, or any other excuse, our lot were just shit."

"Embarrassing are support today .. Vocally that is. Villa much louder throughout the game"

Yes I read that but there were loads of young replica shirt clad black and asian Liverpool fans about.

Its an interesting read though, the basic premise that because of their relative success they have attracted a load of fans who come to experience the Anfield atmosphere but don't do anything to contribute to it, those who would contribute to it cant get tickets.
