Agree about Trott, personally I'd like to see Hain given a go as I think he's more attacking than people think.....throw Woakes back into the mix and it's another Finals Day for sure

Trott and Hain have virtually identical mannerisms at the crease and like to fanny around and take their time. They do not like loud PA systems blasting in their ears and the bowler running up from 5 paces with no slips completing an over in the time that it takes them to their gardening exercises between balls in the 4 day game.

Jonathan Trott was the highest run scorer in T20 cricket in England before international cricket came calling.

He was, but I really think the T20 game has changed since then. Traditional players playing traditional shots no longer dominate games like they did 5 or 6 years ago.

As an aside Trott is missing the game at Durham as he's been given paternity leave.

I'm not sure, I think there's a place for Trott is you plan on him being there for 15+ overs and fill the rest of the top 5-6 with people who are just going to go for it.  if he can get 40-50 at a 90-100% strike rate by just rotating the strike and letting the fireworks go off at the other end that's enough in English T20, not sure you could carry him in the IPL or internationals though but over here the game isn't at the point where 180-200 is par.

But that's my point, the domestic T20 competition is becoming more like the IPL/BBL. You only have to look at the calibre of signings this season with the two most destructive T20 batsmen in world cricket playing in England this summer.

it's not there yet though, look at the scores that have been winning games, 150-160 is a decent target right now so Trott has a role to play for the time being.

He's got a better strike rate than Chopra, Ambrose and Westwood with a significantly better average.

I think it's very unfair on Trott to say he can no longer cut it in domestic T20.

Durham all out for 314. Not bad when you consider they were 183 for 1 and we are missing Barker, Wright and Rankin.
Clarke took 5 for 62 and Milnes took 3.

On the Trott T20 question, I don't think it s a question of whether he can cut it in this format; of course he can. It is more a question of how we marshal our resources as a club across all competitions. On the face of it you would include Keith Barker in the T20, as he can swing most balls in most conditions and is a big hitter. But no, he hardly ever plays this format. We want to give him a rest, and not disturb his rhythm.

Fielding is a very big issue in T20 as well. Barker and Trott are not great in this respect compared to the alternatives, to be honest. Porterfield, probably Trotty's rival for a place in the Rounders, is an exceptional fielder.

Consider the case of a certain Ryan Sidebottom. He has destroyed us at our ground for the last two seasons in the county championship, but he propelled us almost single handedly into the quarter final stages of the Rounders last year with an over of astonishing ineptitude.

Delayed start this morning and finally got going but only managed 4.2 overs before rains came but in that short time
disaster struck Bears top order Chris Rushworth taking 3 - 0 including 3 x LBW's taking the wickets of Chopra, Webb
and Evans the latter two for 0 and Chopra without adding to his overnight score.
At the stoppage we are 20-3

I'm not a fan of T20 but saw that Andrew Gale was getting a lot of abuse yesterday at Derbyshire where Yorkshire lost. This is Andrew Gale who hasn't lost a Championship match for two seasons and has lead them to the top of the league once more despite losing players to International call ups, sadly although it attracts decent crowds it does seem to attract a lot of pissed up morons to the games. The two players they've imported for the hit and run have barely made a contribution and I've noticed Bresnan has played solely as a batsman a couple of games this season whilst Rashid opened the batting yesterday.

Sam Hain just out for 57 ending a partnership with Ambrose worth 98.

Durham 314
Warwickshire 138/5 (39.4 ov)
Warwickshire trail by 176 runs with 5 wickets remaining in the 1st innings

165 to avoid the follow-on.
