well if nothing else he has gone out of his way to change the perception the media has of the club. So, I think it's something quite conscious. Maybe he saw how Villa were perceived as an outsider, and wants to change that. I think comments like us being a big club, and players needing to have balls to play for a club is all part of it. We've all said the same or similar over the last few years and I think our lack of confidence especially at home. We have often acted and played like a small club and we should be acting bigger.

I don't disagree with our sometimes small-club attitude (the actual club, that is, rather than us the fans), but I still don't quite see how that equates to Sherwood doing anything especially deliberate. This is what Sherwood is like, we've known that from the day he took over at Spurs - brash, gobby and popular with the media because he always tells them stuff. It's entertaining, but I agree with Dave: it feels like it'll end in acrimony, rather than simply good-natured failure or the lure of greener pastures elsewhere.

almost all manager appointments end in acrimony. Most managers are fired and don't leave their jobs because they want to. I still don't understand why the inevitable end is a topic for discussion.

It's more about what might happen and why. And why is it a topic for discussion? Well, because it's a thread discussing the manager, TV, his strengths and weaknesses, and some of us feel this weakness might be a problem for him and for us. I don't understand why you have a problem with discussing it.

I don't have a problem with discussing it. I just find it curious why whether or not Sherwood will be here long term and whether it will all end in tears is relevant? It just seems for this particular manager it is a greater topic of discussion than for anyone we have had in recent years. I don't recall anyone talking about it all ending badly when we hired Lambert. But it did. The point being nobody at all can forecast the future yet there seems to be a common feeling that chances are this will end badly. The results are going to determine his future and I am more interested in how he will do his job more that anything he might say.

It does come across to me though that you're trying your very best to find flaws in his management and have done since we appointed him. Has he let down the image of Birmingham yet?

If he wins games and plays a decent style of football, he can tell Jamie Redknapp whatever he wants as far as I'm concerned.

The reason Sherwood is loud, brash, gobby and sometimes says too much is nothing to do with him consciously trying to alter the appearance of the club.

It is because he IS loud, brash, gobby and sometimes says too much. That's just what he's like.

The quietly spoken, dour, mumbling types have done us so well in recent times.

It's a much needed change that is working well at the moment. Will that always be the case? Probably not but as long as we progress and then when change is needed, give the next guy a much better platform to build on, I don't care.

He does talk too much at times and has a high opinion of himself no doubt.  However, for now, he is just what we need.  I would imagine if the results start going the wrong way, his soundbites will start to become tedious.

Yep, that line comes under 'things I wrote that were bullshit'. I was having an odd day. In any case, it seems like you're trying your very best to discuss nothing but other posters. It must get tiring.

I don't mind this redkanpp thing at all.  They probably know each other pretty well and it could have been as a simple as:

JR: How's things going at the new club, happy with the job?
TS: Yeah the's players have been really nervy but we're turning it round, it's a good squad.
JR: Nervy?
TS: playing with fear, understandable after the season they've had but they're better than the results show.

To me that's nothing I wouldn't be happy for him to say to anyone, we could all see it so why should it be taboo for the manager to discuss it with people.

There are no humble managers. They all have huge egos.

He's making me smile about the Villa for the first time since 2011. I don't care what he's saying about anything else.

This is true, everyone talks about top managers' arrogance like Mourinho and Ferguson. But for me the likes of Pulis and Allardyce are very arrogant too, I read an article the other week where Allardyce said 'there is no one more sophisticated than me'.
