Any potential manager reading these pages would never come within 1000 miles of Villa Park. We got the change that was being demanded but some of the names being mentioned were never remotely realistic and now the appointment is already being written off. Sherwood out anybody? Give the guy a chance for Christs' sake.

Give him a chance, he could be the coach we need... Welcome Tim and prove to everyone you can do it.

Just read a comment that we both, i.e. club and manager, have a point to prove so could be a good fit. Which makes some sense to me.

Point to prove? Thought he was the Premier League's most sought after manager?

"One of the". It's quite clearly PR guff in any case. I think he has got a point to prove. It's only  my opinion but I think he has ran his mouth a couple of times which has probably given people negative preconceptions about his ability. I think there is a good man manager and motivating coach in there which is exactly what we need. I don't think there is anyone who  could disagree we have the talent and squad to stay up comfortably

Who will be to blame if we go down?

I'm sure the fans will be behind the team, and if they're not it'll have nothing to do with me causing 'negative momentum'. My comments are really based on research I've done, which might themselves be unfounded but which I have good cause to believe are not.

Off course as with all research and especially when it comes to something as passionate as football it is hard, sometimes impossible to eliminate bias. If you have a preconceived notion about something then it is harder to accept the opposite view should it exist. In this case, for me at least the disappointment in the hire is as much to do with the hiring process as the ultimate decision. Sherwood might turn out to exactly what we need and brilliant but I would have hoped as part of the process the club spoke to 3 or 4 people in the last 2 weeks (when it appears this whole thing started) than go with the first person that they spoke to.

My preconceived notion about Sherwood was that he'd be a good appointment. No, really, I think I said it a few times on here a few days ago, because I didn't really know much about him. The more I've read, however, the more worried I've got.

All this talk of him being a prick might mean for once we have a manager who can by the best out our team. McLeish and Lambert were really decent chaps
And that got us nowhere.
You never know...

Ron Saunders seemed a pretty uninspiring choice of Manager when he was recruited.

That didn't turn out too bad though.

I've just been out to get a body warmer as a token gesture of solidarity.
Absolutely - I made the same point earlier on here re Saunders, although it was in response to someone moaning about Pulis, but it applies as well to Sherwood too.

But let's get it right... it's a gilet!

It's likely I'd be underwhelmed by almost any appointment we could make, if I'm honest. However, I really think this is an extremely poor decision. We could well stay up still, the squad of players is good and often any change is refreshing enough to galvanise a team. In addition, Sherwood is certainly an ebullient character, and often down at the bottom what you need is a wave of emotion to carry you through.

However, unless Sherwood has changed drastically in the last few months, I think the long-term will be extremely disappointing. The guy is very arrogant, and seemingly incapable of acknowledging that he's made any mistakes, preferring to blame the players 'lack of character' if he's made a catastrophic tactical fuck-up - and he makes plenty of those, as he's also, in the words of one Spurs fan, 'proudly and aggressively ignorant of the basics of football tactics'.

Why do we keep appointing this kind of manager? Why always the thoughtless passion-mongers? Why do we see smaller clubs around us go for forward-thinking, tactically aware managers, often from abroad, and continue to appoint old-school British guys who don't even have a clue that they don't have a clue? It's really wearying.

Thing is you can't predict the long term because there isn't enough of a body of work to know how this will turn out. We know he will at the very least make us "interesting" again, which we all hope means we will at least threaten the opposition goal more than once a month. I was so bored of everything Villa, so this at least makes me curious. I, like everyone who has severe doubts hopes above all else that he learns about balance and develops a sense of maturity. To be successful in the game long term requires a modicum of humility especially when you haven't achieved anything. Acting like Mourinho or Ferguson only works when they need to build you a new wing to your house for all the trophies. He'll be well served to have people around him that provide that balance.

Underwhelmed but not livid.   Many on here saying they "hate" him.  What has he done to get so many people's backs up???

Wouldn't have been my first choice, but looking forward to seeing what he can do.  Welcome Tim, and good luck.
