The owner of Swindon on Talksport, good friends with Sherwood, saying he wanted 3-4 players that he wanted an the club decided not to go for them and buy players they thought suitable.

If I was manager of the club I would probably walk away if I don't have total control of footballing matters.

Hang on.

Is the owner of Swindon Town saying these things about the Aston Villa manager?

Fucking hell. I bet Fox and Lerner are less than impressed with this shit coming out.

Indeed. It takes a special moment of Lerner anger for the General to appear and speak to the press. This has been bubbling away since last week.

It’s all so bloody convenient to whine that he had no say in transfer appointments now that things are turning sour on him. He is starting to have a waft of O’Leary about him frankly and this self-preservation nonsense is embarrassing to read. I really do despair at the shenanigans these days; we whiff of a club in a downward spiral, poor managed from top to bottom, making one bad decision after the next. We’ve got relegation currently written right across our face and frankly even as a fan I am thinking that we bloody well deserve it.

The owner of Swindon who sacked his manager has has taken charge of the team himself .....

Lee Power, former Norwich player, amongst other teams

The squad we have is good enough to be a 'comfortable' mid-table, the manager is failing to get anything like the best out of them. For me, it's that simple.

These sort of comments are a bit lazy.

We leak goals at the back - mistake after mistake - from experienced pros and rookies alike - that's not good enough for mid-table.

The midfield of any combo of Westwood, Sanchez, Vertout and Gana is so sterile - not good enough for mid-table.

Up front/atatcking options of  Ayew, Gestede, Gill - mid-table? dont  think so. Gill promises but doesn't score enough and based on opta type stats doesnt create enough for a mid-table side either.

It's not lazy to think our main problem is coaching and how we set up in games which are the responsibility of the manager. We still don't look fit enough, responsibility of the manager. Our corners and set pieces are still crap, responsibility of the manager.
It's not lazy to think that players are struggling when every week he is changing the starting 11, the formation and tactics. 5 at the back at home to fucking Stoke, next game gung-ho away to Chelsea. It's mentalism. How can the player be building up confidence or understanding in what they are doing if it changes every week.
We all know Guzan isn't the best passer of the ball, and now his confidence is shot, to me it's simple coaching to play it safe and cut out the risks but he's obviously still being told to pass it out most of the time. How many times did Guzan cost us with his passing before Lambert, and then Sherwood, decided he should pass the ball like a sweeper?

And look at the squads of Leicester, Albion etc, even Stoke who beat us at a stroll, how many of their payers would you want.

Right now - all of them.

Put it the other way round - how many of our players would they want?

It's lazy saying you'd take every player in their squads over any of ours. Still, that Stephen Ireland is great isn't he. As for Joselu, I bet you know all about him. And so on.

I said why I think the squad is massively underperforming, how about you say why Joselu is better? Or how Wasilewski is better than anything we have? Danny Simpson, what a player! ;)

The transfer stuff is just more bollocks from Sherwood. For starters, during the summer he was acting like he was finding all these overseas gems and now he's saying they were nowt to do with him, he actually wanted to sign predictable shite from Spurs.

And does he really expect people to believe that at no time from when he was interviewed for the job to when we were signing players that he was consulted, or told, what our transfer policy was going to be.

Actually it is fairly easy to believe that our owners had not thought that far ahead when Sherwood was appointed.  However he seemed supportive of the recruitment until it started going tits up on the pitch.

I don't think even us or Sherwood would never think to mention/ask what our future plans were. Especially regarding transfers. As crap as we can be at times, or as inexperienced/stupid or whatever you want to say about Sherwood, I just can't see that at no stage between interview and starting to sign players that it wasn't discussed between the club and him.

You're absolutely right - I am being lazy.  To be honest I know the square root of fuck all about their squads.

But what I do know is that they're above us in the table and even with the best manager in the world our current squad would be very limited.

So, if you offered me a like for like swap right now I'd take it.

From what Fox said at the AVST AGM, it was very much a series of exchanges about how to turn it round short term and where Fox wanted us to be medium term. You would guess transfers played a part on that but could imagine Sherwood just getting wide eyed about the role.

You would have thought so, and you are probably right, but at the time I would have thought the focus was very much on avoiding relegation rather than any potential transfer window policy. Plus were the Sporting Director and scouting chap hired after Sherwood ?  So maybe the policy evolved after that?  I don't know I just get the impression Lerner and Fox are making it up as they go along.  Not trying to make excuses for Sherwood though,  he should be making way more of the players he has to work with.

I wouldn't swap the squads, obviously each side has players i'd like in our squad, same as plenty of sides would like Grealish, Richards, Amavi etc. It's the respective managers that are achieving/failing with the squads they have.

Put it this way, do you think Leicester would be 5th with Sherwood in charge of them? If we had Hughes, would we have 4 points and no idea of what the plan is for the squad?
