What's the problem with being cautious? Sherwood's doing a good job so far, a very good one in terms of the performances and results. He deserves all the plaudits coming his way, and hopefully he'll go on and have a sparkling managerial career with us.

But he's only been here since February. If results since then had been poor, it would have been unfair to extrapolate and assume there was no hope of him turning things round in the future, since the time frame on which that judgment had been based would have been too short. Surely the same principle applies to a run of good form.

TV I really think you've missed the point and the tone of monty's posts. maybe because we're so used to seeing things go wrong over the past 5 seasons that we, he, is kind of still expecting it to happen. it was only a few months ago that we knew that a good 45 minutes would be followed by the inevitable drab, rubbish, loss that would be the next 45 minutes. i see where Monty is coming from because this just feels too good. its not hoping the bubble bursts, its not hoping it goes wrong, its just that we're not used to this. Playing well. Winning. looking very good. It'll end up horribly. Won't it?

When I see Monty say it somehow seems unsustainable, I just take it to mean that we've been so crap for so long that we can't believe what's quite happening and that it can't possibly last. Kind of like a spouse that's been beaten for several years to find their partner gone one morning - they're still expecting them to come back at some stage.

Sherwood's done a great job of revitalising a struggling side. Let's see what sort of players he brings in and where we go from there. It's not something he's had the chance to do so far. One risk he might have is not signing much needed players because of an over-eagerness to work with what he's got and bring through young players. He'll have to get the balance right.

My point is I don't think the level of performance we are now seeing is something that should be beyond our reach. This is a very average PL and outside of the top few sides it doesn't take much to get into a European spot. Take Southampton for example. Have they played much better than what we are playing now over the course of the season? I don't think they have. They've had some really great displays and like today lost a few but on average their performances are of a consistently good enough standard to get into the top 7/8 positions. I'm not saying what we are seeing breaks into the CL. I'm saying that we are seeing is something that can be sustained if managed properly. We are setting new higher standards for ourselves now. If we played this way all season we'd be in a very solid position and not worrying about relegation.

The only thing that matters is that the performances are befitting of a top half of the table team...if TS can maintain the performances over the course of a full season then I'm sure the results will be consistent enough to be pushing for the Europa League places.

Its a genuine pleasure to watch Villa over the last couple of months under TS...and long may it continue.

We've got our Villa back! :)

Pack in arguing, the pair of you.

I don't think it's arguing.

TV wants to fuck him, Monty thinks he should where a condom.

Fuck, 3 points tonight feels great though, condom or no condom.

There's no doubt, I'm not afraid of commitment, so I'm taking the risk and going in bareback. Monty secretly wants to pound him too just that he's going to take female birth control pills, go with the double condom and even bring along a diaphragm. Can't be too careful ;)

He made a point dropping Guzan one which will be recognised by the players and that is if you stuff up there is someone else to take your place. At last we have competition for places.

It's an amazing turnaround, but it also makes you wonder what the fuck Lambert was doing.

He wasn't just failing to get the best out of this squad, he wasn't even getting a middling return for the resources he had.

Paulie you effectively called me a barmpot for suggesting sherwood should be appointed before he arrived.  You said you agreed with a lot of what I said normally.  One swallow a summer doesn't make but he's even surprised me mate with his tactical awareness.

It just shows what an idiot Lambert was. The most idiotic of all his daft 'ideas' was his 'new style' of having us knock the ball around our own half in the misguided belief that it would make our possession stats look more impressive, despite the fact that we couldn't get anywhere near the goal. As if we - and everybody else in football - wouldn't notice that.

And it bears repeating, as if his 'ideas' weren't fuzzy enough, the way he spoke did neither him nor us any favours at all. It wasn't just his accent, but the stream of garbled rubbish he came out with. When I speak to people of other nationalities in my work, I tone down my Birmingham accent and I don't use colloquialisms and quirks of speech that I know they won't understand. Lambert didn't modify the way he spoke at all, which was discourteous and very, very stupid. I think I dislike him a lot more than TSM1, who at least knew his limitations.

Sherwood is such a breath of fresh air: confident, comprehensible, astute, charismatic; the complete antithesis of his dimwitted predecessor.

It's weird that Lambert arrived with a reputation as being tactically astute and able to adapt game by game, whereas Sherwood was unfairly maligned as "Tactics Tim".  Rarely can two reputations have been so poorly deserved.

It also shows how important the personality of the manager is when it comes to actually implementing tactics. Lambert could have been Guardiola on the touchlines, but he's not going to inspire anyone to run through walls for him. You can tell Sherwood really has all the players completely buying in to what he wants them to do.
